Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

+1 for the Samsung 850, 8650, 970, and 970 Pro SSDs. The temperatures are fine for my setup after I removed the Gigabyte "Heat Sink" ...see attachment...
What was the 970 temp with the heatsink on ?

Roughly the same. Supposedly, the thing to keep cool on a Samsung is not the storage itself, but the "controller" part of the NVMe. My Noctua fans are in line with the 970 Evo and the 970 Pro. I've never had an issue with them. I'n not opposed to heatsinks, but what concerns me is the insulating quality of decorative heat sinks, and the unknown quality and lifespan of the sticky thermal pad. I don't want to make it any hotter, so I aimed down the middle: I removed the factory heatsink (they only give you one) and let one of the two front Noctua fans take care of things. I'd gladly put in new ones, especially if they could concentrate on keeping the controller cool.

I have the 970 EVO Plus which runs a bit hot under load at 56 degrees with the Gigabyte heatsink on. I haven’t thought to remove the heatsink to see if there’s a difference. I could try a better/thicker heatpad tho.

Happy New Year, BTW!.

My Sabrent Rocket runs at 28C with Gigabyte’s heat sink.

Update:
  • Sabrent Rocket PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD is currently at 26˚C
  • Silicon Power PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD is currently at 25˚C
@CaseySJ - Just curious - what tool were you using to display all those hardware monitoring stats?

@CaseySJ - First, just want to say how great your guide is. I had some experience with Clover hacks in the past but this is my first time using OpenCore. Only hardware difference from your build is I used i9-10850k and Crucial ballistix RAM. I am also only using iGPU for now. Installation of Big Sur 11.1 was flawless and everything seems to work including TB3, all USB ports, sleep/wake, handoff, AirDrop, etc. I did have a problem with sleep when I tried the YOUBO Fenvi card. I traced it to the USB connector. This resolved when I replaced the YOUBO with the Fenvi card you recommended. I have no idea why.

I do have one small issue, Intel Power Gadget 3.7 does not appear to be working for me. The program seemed to install without error but I get the following pop-up when I load the program:

Even after following the above instructions I still get the above pop-op and obtain no readings:

I do recall someone having the same problem on this thread awhile back but do not recall any follow-up or solutions. Its obviously not a major problem but just wanted to run some tests on the system. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks again!

Update: Found solution to this problem as described below.

Found the answer to my problem here: https://osxdaily.com/2019/03/03/install-intel-power-gadget-mac/ . Maybe someone will find this useful.
