Thank you for your help guys. Appreciate the indepth discussion that you've provided me with so far. This is good enough for my liking I think. I don't think there's anything more that can be done at this stage so I'm happy for this to be called a closed case.

I love Big Sur. I love the smoothness it runs and I haven't bricked it because I'm running as low a possible config as possible.

and i will agree that Big Sur seems to be more fluid

Without hardware acceleration, you will find other things broken such as Adobe apps that depend on it or apps that depend on Metal or even things like Quick Look.

It sucks when Apple drops support for older hardware. I've been there too. But having a version of macOS installed without hardware acceleration is more than just a simple compromise, it's crippling the system.

takes me back in the old days of installing Windows 3.11 and Windows 95, just before installing graphic card driver, was very painful :)
