[Guide] Dell XPS 9560 Big Sur OpenCore

I am not sure what you mean. I am installing to my internal Hard drive, but I made a USB installer/boot disk with an EFI trying to launch it. Even when I put your EFI on the actual computer with the Catalina install, then it bugs out.

It fails everytime from trying to install within Catalina.

All I did was google your error message and most hits immediately pointed NVRAM being broken. You can figure out how to test NVRAM function.

Does your USB actually have big sur on it or is it just the EFI partition?

I was saying if you are only starting the update process from within Catalina, you have to restart that process every time it fails meaning loading Catalina back up and then having it start the process 10-15min and reboot and then select install option in OC.

That makes sense. I'm having a super goofy issue where it's not loading from the EFI properly, and I even wiped the EFI! I have been trying to get it to boot off my USB Flash Drive Installer, that has an EFI on it and a partition with the full Big Sur installation files setup for a USB Install.

I'm not finding much on my issue and how to fix it? Reset bios? Full HD wipe? Not sure =/

If you are not using the latest BIOS then definitely do that. You'll have to mod the UEFI again.

Maybe you're having problems with the boot sequence. Remove all boot options in BIOS and point directly at USB/EFI/Boot/bootx64

I may need to add some more info on bootstrap that OpenCore uses but this info is out there and people can just look it up.

OK, new error. got past the NVRam issue with the Big Sur installer. Any ideas?

Edit: I disabled all but essential kexts and now I was able to boot into the installer.

The more I mess with this the more I think it relates to your PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0) and SMCLightSensor not playing nice together. No ideas what the solution is though...

If I remove all the custom code you added for PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0), I can get it to boot, but no igpu acceleration though... :(

That PCI devices is the framebuffer for igpu so yea if you remove all that no igpu acceleration. I believe I made that in Mojave and we been using it fine ever since.

So you have it installed now but no iGPU?

I got 2 things you could try
remove the fakepciid and fakepciid_intel kexts
disable csm if you haven't already, via the UEFI mod

After that it looks to be a 4K issue, I've seen posts about 4K stuck at 48Hz as well, you'll need to do a EDID patch which isn't necessarily hard but I can't do it, might have to change the guide to only work on 1080p screens.

I can try the rest, but making an EDID patch is out of my expertise range. If there's an easy guide, I'm down for trying.

The only way I could get into OpenCore Big Sur is deleting the igpu info, but yeah, terrible with no acceleration :)

I'll try the other suggestions you made and report back.

Thank you!

Well at least we narrowed it down to iGPU/monitor related

I would still disable CSM, but leave my EFI release untouched
Try this, it's my config but it includes edid override

IT WORKED!

I added the 4k config to your files, left everything untouched, booted with full igpu acceleration!

Thank you!

Now. Anything else you'd recommend I tweak up on it? Still think disable CSM?

ALRIGHT! I was nearing giving up helping you lol
Can you check if your display is running @ 60hz, other people have gotten it to work but only with 48hz
To check and change goto System pref/displays/ option + Scaled/check Show low resolution mode
Disable CSM is a good idea for most hacks, I do recommend that.
