Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

pastrychef

I gave 0.6.4 a try and found that I lost sleep. Monitor will go off but no further. Upon mouse click I don't even get the password screen.

I did reset the NVRAM.

My system is sleeping and waking fine.

Are you able to VNC/screen share in to your system?

It might be something else. Booted back with my 0.6.3 and it’s still not going to sleep now. It was working till I moved to 0.6.4. Screen will go to sleep and upon waking screen I got the log in now. This is a clean install only a week old.

Not sure what you are asking on the VNC? Am I able to remote in? Or are you asking to screen share?

Thanks

When you try to wake it and the screen stays black, try to VNC or screen share in to the computer.

No I don’t get a black screen. Just goes right back to the desktop and never asked for the password.

This happens to me once in a while after playing around with the sleep. I think PC has the one-click wake kexts installed, and on my system, that broke sleep for me. Sleep was still broken after removing the kext and SSDT and I couldn't figure it out. I had to do a wipe and fresh install.

The last time it did this was when I upgraded to 11.1 beta. Sleep broke again. At that point I had cloned the fresh install, so I was able to restore from that.

One longshot is to clear out the power management files from your Library > Preferences. This worked once when I broke sleep.

At this point, I don't really have time to go through the troubleshooting, but it seems that with each release of Big Sur, the sleep/wake has been getting more shaky. I used to be an update junkie, but since I got sleep working again, I signed out of the beta program and haven't updated to OC 0.6.4 yet. I don't see anything in the latest update that would make a difference.

Did you copy your Serial, Board Serial, UUID, and MAC address to the config.plist?

I may sound stupid but : how can I reset the NVRAM. As far as I can recall with a Mac you just pressed the keys alt+command+p+r....
It is an option on the bootloader screen. With Clover, when the bootloader options come up, press F11. With OpenCore, it is an actual selection (Reset NVRAM).

Hi tedyun, thanks a lot for your advice. Eventually I could find it

Yes. Left the computer sitting for over an hour and now sleep is working again.. Im at a total loss..

Also when going to 0.6.4 Do we need to do this change?
*Upgrading to 0.6.4 may require additional steps when BootProtect is set to Bootstrap.

Thanks
