Hackintosh with no GPU (at the moment...)

Hi guys!
I'm very excited to be part of this forum.
I'm not really new in the hackintosh world as I previous (few years ago) tried to build an hackintosh. At this time, it was Snow Leopard and I think it was much more complicated than today!

I'm posting today because I'd like to build an hackintosh based on this components (I didn't buy any of them for now):

• Motherboard: Z490 (not exactly sure which one, maybe the Gigabyte Z490 Vision D because of the 2 thunderbold ports, but it's very expensive...)
• CPU: i9 (probably the 10850k or 10900k, is the performance difference worth it regarding the price gap?)
• RAM: 16 or 32 GB, not sure yet, maybe Crucial Ballistix
• GPU: RX 6800 XT, when I'll be able to catch one

As you all know, it's pretty hard to get a RX 6800 XT nowadays (plus seems it's not supported on Big Sure yet). So I'd like to start building my hackintosh with no GPU for now.

So here is my main interrogation:

• Can I start to build and use my hackintosh with no GPU and only use the graphical chipset on the CPU (assuming I'll use it for simple tasks which didn't require extensive GPU usage)?
• Will I be able to plug my 4K monitor?
• When I'll get the RX 6800 XT, will I be able to plug it on my existing hackintosh without having to do a fresh install?

The Z490 Vision D is a good choice because there is a golden build for it and the OP of the thread is very active and helpful.

The I9 10850K and the 10900K is really close we are talking about 1 or 2% performance increase so I am not sure it is worth the extra $130.

I would get no less than 32GB of memory.

I am not a 100% sure but I do not think the IGPU from the 10th Gen chips is supported at least not without spoofing an older Generation IGPU.

You should be able to use your 4k monitor with the IGPU

You should be able to add the RX6800 XT when it becomes supported without doing a fresh install.

What's exactly a "golden build"? I saw there's a golden build thread on the forum but I'm not sure to understand exactly what it is. Is it a combination of components which works together to build a hackintosh? Or does it mean that there is a specific "build" that you can use to install your hackintosh when you use these specific components?

Regarding "spoofing an older Generation IGPU", is it something that can easily be done? Or is it tricky, with reduced chances of success?

In general they are a guide that is very well detailed and works very well for Hackintosh in addition the guide are well serviced by the OP to help people along the way. It is not totally specific to the full build mostly the board in the case of The Vision D board Guide is a continuation of the z390 Designare Golden build that has approaching 3000 pages. So loads of stuff have been figured out to get the smoothest running Hack!

Spoofing the older Generation IGPU is not complex but it can lead to some issues and may require some extra work. I might even be wrong and it might totally be supported I could be remembering something from before the release of the MacBook Air with 10gen CPU.

iGPU on 10th gen works fine, I have seen builds with it. I don't know about spoofing yet. I'll do my Gen 10 build maybe next week if I receive the motherboard.

I'll probably wait for Rocket Lake as I can wait until the beginning of 2021. (plus when Rocket Lake will be release, the RX 6800 XT will probably be supported on Big Sure! [fingers crossed])
I'll keep you inform and probably ask your opinion about my components choice

Oh yeah, you’re right! I forgot that...
In the case where Rocket Lake are supported, will I be able to use a Rocket Lake CPU on the Z490?
According to this post, it seems it will be possible, but I’d like to be sure to understand it correctly.

Z490 is supposed to support Rocketlake similarly to z370 supports 9th gen CPU.

I'd like to start with this configuration, what do you think?

• SSD: Samsung 970 PRO 512GB

Which power supply do you advise (don't forget that I'll plug a RX 6800 XT)?
