[SOLVED] How to rename opencore boot entry?

I have a perfectly working dual boot Catalina and Win10 system. Everything works great.

As I am using Catalina for work, can't really risk it by updating to Big Sur just yet.

So I added another SSD to my system to use it just for testing.

Currently I am little swamped with work and can't really make time to try to figure out open core.

Even tried to avoid the installation hassle and used my office mac pro to install Big Sur on an external drive

and then just added the modified EFI folder on my hackintosh machine later.

Thought it was a good plan..but the damn thing won't boot.

I'm getting errors that seem like it has some issues with USB.

I'm using the same custom SSDT and kext that I created for Catalina and there it works fine.

I attached some photos of the errors and my EFI folder if someone is willing to take a look.

Hi there.

I can't tell from your uploads what version of Clover you are using, however you will need one of the latest hybrid Clover/OpenCore builds to run Big Sur. Most builders install using OpenCore and then keep on using OC although it is, as I say, possible to run Big Sur with the new hybrid bootloader.

You've done the safest thing and installed Big Sur to an external drive, to protect your work machine. I think I would build an OpenCore USB bootloader memory-stick to experiment with, rather than using an old Clover EFI. The USB mapping you've done can be transferred over to OC no problem, so that's one less job to do.

Also, being paranoid about your work, I think I'd disconnect the Catalina drive while experimenting just to be safe.

Hi there.

I can't tell from your uploads what version of Clover you are using.

I'm using clover version 5126. Modified my catalina plist, added quirks to it but can't get it to boot.

Try Clover r5127. It has been updated for the release version of Big Sur.

Opencore better then clover. You should be choose opencore.

Unbelievably I managed to setup open core on my first try. Used OC Gen-X and ProperTree and Big Sur booted no problem. Currently rocking triple boot consisting of Catalina, Big Sur and Win10. I noticed much faster boot times than with clover which is great.

i have one more dumb question if someone can help me with that. My Catalina drive is named just macOS and I would like to rename it to macOS Catalina so my boot menu looks a bit better and doesn't mess with my OCD.

If I just rename the drive icon on my desktop nothing happens..boot menu stays the same.

Nevermind. Figured it out. Can't use finder but disk utility to rename volume.

I did, still don't know how to change boot entry name..it was easier to set up boot chime then this.
