Well, this is scary "Your Computer Isn't Yours"

Yeah, for work and for companies, it's probably more cost efficient to subscribe to Adobe than to purchase the software outright when you consider that upgrades used to cost money anyway. For an individual, I lean more towards switching to the Affinity Suite or Pixelmator if you just need a Photoshop-like tool.

On the other hand, if/when I get a new Xbox, I'd probably go for the Game Pass when considering how new titles are often ~$70 and since I mainly play PRGs and hardly ever go back and play them again after completing them. For tools such as Photoshop, Pixelmator, Affinity Photo, users typically use these apps year after year...

I know I'm showing my age, but when I was first exposed to "online", 1200 baud modems were the norm and the biggest online service was CompuServe. Lol. I even ran a dial-up BBS in my early teens. AOL didn't come along until much later...

I am not a large company and I would not update my software yearly maybe every three so it is a bit more then I normally would spend but it is also a tax write off so it is money I do not have to pay taxes on but get to keep my software updated. I have tried other programs like Acrobat but the compression/quality is not as good as for photoshop I use it very limitedly but I like that when I need it, it is there. Since school required a photoshop class I know how to use it fairly well and I am not going to forget my knowledge anytime soon. When I have tried other programs they just didn't do what I wanted the way I wanted without learning how to do it. As of recently "covid-19 elementary school" they require the kids to make videos and presentations and such so having access to premier is really nice albeit a little bit overkill!

As for 1200 baud I am familiar with that and CompuServe and I used it to write a lot of reports and such. My GF parents were super into computers so I had earlier experiences with the internet I just did not have my own stuff. I knew about BBS and messed around with them at my GF house but very limitedly. Even when I did get my own computer I did not have my own internet access I used my friends a lot on his alt name right up until he got in trouble with his girl because all these girls were messaging him thinking it was me. I then panhandled at the 7-11 few days a month to get the $20 that it cost I did that till I started working for earthlink in 1996 and got a free internet account. Though I totally got out/off the internet and away from computers after earthlink for 6 or 7 years till I was given a job that required I learned CAD and architecture.

Yeah, comfort level means a lot. It's why I'm willing jump through hoops and/or pay more to use macOS.

The early days were fun. Sometimes, I wish they'd open up some of the old services such as CompuServe, Prodigy, eWorld, AOL (as it was in the beginning) again. If for nothing else, just the historic and nostalgia value.

Btw, have you see the Raspberry Pi 400? I love it's retro-ish design.

Oh I would totally pay for MacOS if they sold it for general purchase. I totally have a developer account because it makes me feel like I paid for it. I do not develop stuff I have no idea how to code.

I am not sure I miss AOL though I do miss AIM and my friends list even I had AIM till the bitter end when they took it offline.

I had not seen the RPi 400 till just now but I can see how someone who had a commodore could get very nostalgic over it.

I kinda miss the "You've got mail."

I was never a big sounds guy so that kind of crap was always turned off. I do not like my OS making sounds, my cell phone does not even chime when I get text messages. Now that we totally jumped the track!

You really are dating yourself. I bet you have a collection of ASCII porn.

For all you people that have your panties in a bunch lets stop reposting these people videos that are more worried about getting views instead of spreading a solution... See below!

No need to be scared about Apple's data collection that happens without your consent.

There's a very simple patch you can use to stop this activity in macOS Mojave through Big Sur.
Open up Terminal and copy and paste the following:

echo "127.0.0.1 ocsp.apple.com isrg.trustid.ocsp.identrust.com" | sudo tee -a /etc/hosts
View attachment 496197
It's probably wise to revert to the default setting before installing a new piece of software and after updating any software. In the rare case that a developer id is stolen or compromised and used to create malware, you would be exposed. OCSP stands for Online Certificate Status Protocol. It's the way Apple checks if the app was notarized by them. On the postive side, they gather the info to determine how many macOS users have malicious software running on their Macs.

To undo, run this terminal command:

sudo sed -i "" "/ocsp\.apple\.com/d" /etc/hosts

Of course you can always use the Malwarebytes for Mac program to check apps before you install them.

For those still running High Sierra or older macOS versions you don't need to use the patch to stop this. It only started after macOS Mojave was released. Jeff Johnson had this to say back in December of 2018:

Agree, they are all doing it, Facebook, Amazon, Google, Windows Microsoft all except Huawei Technologies, thanks for your post for the simple patch : )

I think this will cause one hell of a backlash against Apple, but the fan boys will still go out and buy Mac. Maybe time for us to consider Ubuntu as an alternative? Shame because I quite like the Apple eco system but this is a step too far in my opinion.
