How to Prepare for Big Sur

Hiya, after reading all this thread I believe the best thing to do is to stay with Catalina on my Intel Hackie. Big Sur does not add any great improvements and I will surely not build an ARM Hacckie in the near future. As I said in an earlier post, the Intel Hackie will be gone if Apple really stops support for Intel Macs: they will all be gone and will be sold cheaply second hand!!

I shall try Big Sur but do not think I will keep it running on my Intel i5 .... I'll stick with Catalina

I tried updating to 17,1 from 14,2, but ended up in trouble. The apple logo appears and after some progress, it was stuck with gioscreenlockstate 3. I had to revert the config to 14,2 to make it work. Any insights?

CPU is just for your CPU, please amend with speed as well
Did't see an option to add RAM, so added with CPU. Removed that and added cpu speed. New to the forum, so getting used to it

yes, as mentioned, CPU is just for your CPU

now you have setup your profile correctly, you can use iMac18,3 smbios

I am also looking to move away from my iMac 13,2 definition which has worked wonderfully up till now. Any hint on what I should try with my older system?

From my experience there are only two values that allow you to properly sign in and use iMessage without getting a single error code.

MLB (Board Serial Number) and ROM, if you take those two values from a real mac hardware that is either discontinued or damaged, generate your own unique(unused) serial number according to the SMBIOS that you want to use and your own UUID, paste the MLB and ROM taken from that Mac, you have 100% successful sign-in rate and never get any error.

Newer AppleID(s) no matter if all values are correctly generated and properly match, you won't be able to ever sign in to iMessage, you will get the error with customer code and have to call Apple, even that route didn't work on my case and simply gave up, grabbed a few old non usable MLB and ROM pairs for my devices and use that way.
