[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Cold boot + restart + hot-plug doesnt work, i attached photos what happens.

Edit: I switched to the MOD1 firmware and attached you the ioreg, but it doesnt work on this either.
Do you have any other Thunderbolt 3 devices?

Yes i have an external nvme storage. (Sorry it's an USB-C external storage, it works on the other USB-C Port, it's not an Thunderbolt 3 device )
Cold boot - works -> reboot -> works
Hot-plug - doesnt work

Maybe there is something wrong with my OC config?
I disabled the SSDT-DDGPU, but without any effect.

If eGPU works with the original unmodified firmware, then why would you want to modify the firmware? In other words, if it ain't broke, why fix it? On Alpine Ridge systems we can enable Thunderbolt Bus with an SSDT, without modifying the firmware. But as always, not everything will work.

Port 3 is not correct. We've already established that Port 5 is correct.
Hi @CaseySJ I need to modify the firmware because hot plug is not work with this laptop. Also, the chip is not detected without modifying the firmware if I do not plug thunderbolt device at boot, which is the same as the USB-C port. However, with your mod firmwares it is able to use USB-C hot plug. Thunderbolt hot plus also works but the egpu is not detected, which is wired.

Have you tried enabling Thunderbolt Bus with just SSDT?

This might be a better option. I should be able to help if you post the DSDT.

Yes, please check the attachments. I would much appreciate it. I am currently using Clover (OpenCore works too but the EC SSDTs has some problems, which cause a little laggy experience compared to Clover) and remove the SMbios info in the EFI.zip.

Hi @CaseySJ - I got this disabled - but things are getting stuck at this point. I cant seem to get past it....

Please do the following:
  1. Post a screenshot of your CLOVER/ACPI/patched or OpenCore OC/ACPI folder.
  2. Post the USB SSDT located in that folder: SSDT-UIAC-Z390-DESIGNARE-V7.aml
Any clue @CaseySJ

Hi @CaseySJ i tried to use my previous eGPU (ADT-Link R43SG-TB3) and here is the same thing, the GPU doesn't get recognized.
The good thing on the ADT-Link is, i can use the end-part as nvme storage case/connection.
So i plugged in my nvme ssd and than i got this error message on hot-plug
tb_error.jpeg

Cold-boot doesnt work and i dont get this message, only at hot-plug.

This even doesnt appear when i plug one of my eGPU's (Razer Core X and ADT-Link R43SG-TB3)

Edit: I checked on Windows if there my eGPU get recognized, same thing, before that firmware flash it worked on windows 10.

Edit2: I uploaded the ioreg with the original firmware and plugged in egpu (cold-boot).

It would be best to perform a clean installation on a spare SATA SSD mounted in an external USB 3 enclosure or internally to an available SATA port.

Will give it a try thanks. Was trying to avoid a new install if possible but will see how it works out. I have an external USB SSD so will install to that. Thanks for sticking with this.
