Stork's Entry Level Hector Build: GA-H97N-WIFI - i5-4690 - HD4600 & GTX 760

Hello, I'm having an issue were the UEFI Boot Option for the flash drive doesn't come up but comes up for other H97N-WIFI motherboards. What BOIS Setting might be affecting this?

The issue turned out to be the 5600 XT. I installed Catalina 10.15.3 via upgrade from previous system (High Sierra) with Mac Pro 6.1 definitions and GTX 1060 as temporary graphics output as Xeons do not have IGPU. (BTW, BIOS config was in line with original 'Hector build' recommendations.) Once the system was installed, I swapped the GPU after adding the agdpmod=pikera boot arg. Newest lilu and whatevrgreen seem to take care of the reported DP output issues. (I work with dual monitor setup via DisplayPort.) The rest of the Clover Config was "stock" from UniBeast.
Still need to work on enabling all mb's USB 3 ports and on-board audio, but everything else seems to work so far.

Hi, would you mind to share your steps ?
Will Catalina work with GTX 760 ?

Hi,

Thanks very much for the guide - I've been on and off following this for a few years now, first building mine in 2015. Still going strong...! So thank you.

I am yet to install a graphics card, still using the onboard HD4600 graphics. This is my next step..!

I was hoping I could get some advice.

I would like to get the GTX 760 as it is the latest recommendation in the OP, but I am concerned with the power consumption.

I have a Corsair H80i CPU Cooler Corsair CS450M power supply, whereas the GTX 760 recommends a minimum 500W power supply.

1) Am I right to be concerned about this, and so should I avoid the GTX 760?

2) If GTX 760 is not advisable due to the power concern, does anyone have any other recommendations?

Running Mojave.
Z97N-WIFI
i7 4790k

Thank you
Tim

You have two options: first, replace the power supply with a 650 watt and then choose a good graphics card, or, second, get a used GT 710/730/750 series graphics card that doesn't draw enough power to overload your current PSU.

Hello Stork,

Have you upgraded the Hector build to Catalina ??

Hello Stork,

Not yet. I have several applications that are 32bit apps which have yet to be updated. However, I’m learning OpenCore and hopefully will update Post #1 over the next couple of weeks regardless of those apps.

Wow, an OpenCore guide would be amazing.

@UNIXv5 : I’ve updated to Catalina, the system is definitely stable. I had issues updating Clover because of kext position. Apart from that, if you own a Radeon GPU, the update should be almost flawless.
Just be sure to update your kext with Hackintool in the right position, especially the audio ones

How can I update the kexts with Hackintool if I get stuck at the loading bar and Apple logo after updating from 10.14.6 to 10.15.7? What is the right position for the kexts? EFI/Kexts, L/E or S/L/E?
