Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

I have that problem on my Vision D and my gaming M. Sometimes no hang at all and at other times I need to shut down and reboot. I have tried everything to eliminate the problem. If I pull the power card, it boots up normally. The Gaming M is not as bad as the Vision D. Gigabyte was no help.
I have four operating systems on this system...
  • Catalina
  • Big Sur
  • Windows 10
  • Kubuntu Linux 20.04
...and the system reboots properly every time, but I run Windows and Kubuntu very occasionally.

emistral, Higgie and lightmanrt, thanks for confirming your similar observations.

We need to share findings and investigate further. I havent really noticed a pattern yet but the Gigabyte Splash Screen hangs seem to occur in phases depending on what I have been running. A Reset or Power Down and Reboot is necessary to recover, sometimes after several attempts.

I have two on board Corsair MP600 NVMe modules running Windows 10 Pro and Catalina and a Samsung Evo 860 SSD running Big Sur.

I have had the occasional boot straight into the BIOS Setup Screen. Have any of you made that observation?

I have been advised by Gigabyte and Corsair to do extensive RAM tests with MemTest86, which I am doing at the moment, one memory module at a time (4x16gb). I don't believe that is the cause and your similar observations could confirm that.

Please report any further observations.

(Sorry, I have said observations too many times!)

Thank you!
For WiFi ist seems that ive found a native 4.2 Card:

Ive ordered it now with this adapter card:

Will let you know if it works :)
I received my card today, it works exceptionally well!
Out of my 100.000 dsl connection, I get 90% of the total speed!
(Instead of 25% with the beta intel drivers for the vision d board)

Bluetooth 4.2 works with everything without any hiccups!
(Internal Bluetooth with the beta drivers doesn't work with by example my Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse etc)

Even my Apple Keyboard now works on the FileVault login password screen!
Before the keyboard only worked AFTER the FileVault login screen, but not on it.

Please refer to the Sleep Aid. There is nothing else I can add that isn't mentioned in that guide.
ALL IS WELL!!! Sleeps like a baby. Everything works except for the App Store. Still going around with Apple on that one. I am very content. @CaseySJ Thank you very much for your tireless and work and your kind advice.

I have Catalina, Windows and Big Sur. Once it finally gets to the open core picker, everything is fine. The bios posts then just sits there or takes forever to get to the setup message. Other times it is perfect.

App Store issue is also a common problem that is typically due to missing en0 Ethernet port. Have a look at System Information —> Network to see if en0 is present. If not, we can delete /Library/Preferences/NetworkPreferences.plist, then reboot.

I'm sorry to disturb you. Could you help me solve the problem of MSI thunderbolt card?
I tried many ways to make it work. A friend of forum helped me, but it still can't work normally. The details are in this post.

@CaseySJ do you or anybody else had any issue with booting windows 10 after switching to 0.6.2?
I updated last week to 0.6.2 and Macos has been booting fine. Tonight I booted windows 10 and after seeng the windows 10 spinning dots for a couple of seconds, the system reset, back to bios post, OC picker. It simply won't boot.
Lucky I had a backup of my 0.6.1 EFI so I swapped EFI, rebooted, reset nvram, reboot windows 10 and it was fine. writing this post from windows 10.
Something definitely in 0.6.2
I have not investigated yet, just wondering if people had suggestions first

CaseySJ, so many thanks, for your outstanding and comprehensive tutorial.
I just moved my Gigabyte Z370/Gigabyte RX580 to Gigabyte Z490 Vison D/Gigabyte RX5700XT.
Before receiving the PC I prepared my OC file according to your recommendations and then...
1. Move all disks to new computer
2. Boot from the USB
3. Open Catalina
4. Open Big Sur
5. WTF? Hmmmm nothing has changed.. Did I miss something? :(
6. Open "About this Mac" and... new MB and GC :)
7. Waooo amazing, NOTHING to setup, EVERYTHING is working like a charm as before
8. Smoke a cigarette
9. Send a message on the Tonymac forum
10. Still speechless ;-)

Thanks so much !

Hmm just forgot something, to enrich your knowledge database...
1st boot was wrong, but I knew it may happen as you mentioned in the BIOS setting ! Indeed, Gigabyte RX5700XT needs CSM enable.
In addition to that I am running BIOS F6 without any problem.
