[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

You're quite welcome. As you're discovering, the Hackintosh world moves pretty quickly. It's a vibrant community of developers and enthusiasts so it's a good idea to check in every couple of months to keep abreast of the latest changes.

For example:
  • Going from Catalina 10.15.3 to 10.15.4+ required everyone to enable native NVRAM.
  • Sometime later Gigabyte posted Beta BIOS F9g that disables CFG-Lock by default, making life much easier for enabling native NVRAM.
  • Clover went from 4xxx to 5xxx months ago, which also restructured the Clover directories.
  • Clover is going through another significant shift as it tries to merge significant pieces of OpenCore into itself. This shift is currently proving a bit problematic, but should improve because Clover Configurator just released an update (5.16.0.0) that supports many more Quirks:

  • OpenCore itself has evolved considerably in the last few months. Many of us have converted to OpenCore completely because it supports:
    • Z490 motherboards
    • Big Sur
    • AMD Ryzen motherboards
As you discovered, there was a lot of catching up to do!
I noticed Clover was updated today, I believe! Yesterday the latest version was 5123 (which crashed my build entirely) a little hesitant to update to 5124. I still need to figure out the NVRAM too. Lots to learn.

Same for me. Let me test Clover 5124 shortly...

Let’s start by listing the make and model of all components in the system, including NVMe SSD(s) and memory.

  • Are you using a WiFi/BT card such as Fenvi FV-T919?
  • Are there any other PCIe cards in the system?
  • Are there any Thunderbolt devices connected?
  • Is the Corsair H115i connected to the internal F_USB header?
It would be best to follow the process of elimination by disconnecting certain devices as follows:
  • Remove the WiFi/BT card and see if the problem persists.
  • Remove all PCIe cards except AMD RX 580 and see if the problem persists.
  • Disconnect all Thunderbolt devices and see if the problem persists.
  • Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, then see if the problem persists.
Also, are you using a Thunderbolt monitor or a standard HDMI/DisplayPort monitor?

Hey CaseySJ! I followed this guide that you posted for OC 0.6.1. It works fantastic for 10.15.4, but it does not show boot option for macOS Big Sur. My Big Sur boots fine with clover r5123. Any tips to get the boot options showing? (I'm not sure if you posted a new guide for OC 0.6.2 or newer, I have not been able to find it).

Thank you!

Edit: Found the OC 0.6.2 guide, but still no boot option for Big Sur. Instead, I have 2 EFI boot options (one likely points to clover, and the other to an old OC on my backup drive), Time machine, my 10.15.4 Clone, my 10.15.4 Recovery, a Big Sur Installer (from the current USB) and an internet recovery. This is after having pressed spacebar to show all options. It seems that my Samsung 970 plus NVME drive (my main boot drive with Big Sur Installed) isn't showing up in OC 0.6.2 at all (I used to boot with OC, and had no issues)

Edit2: Booting the macOS Big Sur installer causes OC to crash

Regarding the BIOS clock issue: If your time in the OS environment is right, don't worry about the BIOS clock time. The BIOS time is never right and even if you change it, it'll be off again at next restart or next clearing of NVRAM.

Regarding stability: Check that your total power draw is not anywhere near the limits of the power supply. If you have it on a UPS, try to measure the draw in watts from the UPS while you're running your benchmark.

Regarding sleep: For me, it's not worth the hassle as I'm running Pro Tools and a UAD Apollo 8. My monitor will sleep, but I never Sleep the system. This was also the case when I had a top-spec 27" i9 iMac, and a couple of the 6,1 MacPro cylinders.

I am running r5124 with no additional issues since r5123 on Big Sur Beta 9.

A couple days ago, updated from Mojave to Catalina, the process went very smooth, but....

I'm facing a huge nightmare , sometimes the Finder and other apps gets stuck with the " spinning beach ball". I guess everything it's related to permissions. I'm giving access to most of the apps I use the regularly in Security & Privacy.

But I wonder there's and easy way to reset permissions ?
Hi, I have the same issues with fcp..please guide me if you solved

Please check the Kernel and Kext Patches section of Clover Configurator for any USB Port Limit patches. If you see any, disable all of them by checking the Disabled box on the right side of each row.
They already are @CaseySJ

The issue is one I have dealt with recently. It seems that there are two system processes that may be responsible for the freezing of the finder. They are called "pkd" and "lsd" and can be seen in the Activity Monitor app in your utilities folder. When you encounter the finder freeze, including when you try to save something in an application, and an open/save dialog appears or tries to appear and is frozen, if you force quit pkd and/or lsd, the finder will respond again but unfortunately, the freeze will return with certain activities on the Mac. I traced mine to two things. First, disable any extra extensions for Safari. Sometimes certain safari extensions exacerbate the behavior. You may notice that it happens more often when you have Safari running or that the freezes start as soon as you open Safari. But, second, and more importantly if you are using Final Cut Pro like I am, you must erase the Fxfactory plugins completely from your system including all directories for those plugins, and all preferences, and then reinstall them. After I did that, I don't have the issues anymore for the last month or more. It might also help you to know that my system is using the latest system version, 10.5.7, latest Hackintosh plugins, and Opencore 0.6.2, BIOS f9i, and Final Cut Pro 10.4.10.
