Gigabyte B550 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + AMD Ryzen 7 3700X + AMD RX 5600 XT

Yeah, my guess is Photoshop is going to be the most complicated one for them to update, unfortunately. Several decades of legacy features still hanging around in there.

For the beta apps, I'd love to know if any of them will install/open on your machine without patching. They should install side-by-side with the regular apps, so shouldn't interfere with your other testing.

I'll collect an After Effects project in just a few minutes and post a download link here.

Thanks so much for doing this! And no rush, obviously. Enjoy your walk!
After Effects runs very well with just the patch. No need for MKL_DEBUG_CPU_TYPE. In fact, if we specify MKL_DEBUG_CPU_TYPE, the program runs excruciatingly slowly and crashes.

I can test some of the Beta Apps for you if you want. I have a full subscription, so am not time limited, but only use Photoshop and Lightroom (my son & daughter use some of the other apps, eg Premier Pro, hence the full subscription).

I know nothing about After Effects etc but can run a project for you on my Threadripper 3970X if you post the download link.

Thank you! This seems to have made all the difference. Photoshop is working very well now!

I am tempted to upgrade this system as follows: :)
  • CPU upgrade to newly announced AMD Ryzen 9 5800X (12-core, 24-thread)
  • GPU upgrade to forthcoming AMD Radeon RX 6000 series (Big Navi)
  • NVMe SSD to PCIe 4.0
Where is the BIG Like button for you? Thank you very much for testing!

I have been waiting since Z390, to Z490 and now B5500 for my next hackintosh. I am considering 5950X as my i7-4790K is so old.

PS: I think you need 5900X (12 cores), 5800X is 8 cores. I will clone what you do for this machine.

Currently installing beta versions of:
  • Illustrator
  • Premiere Pro
  • After Effects
Will update this post with the results of trying to launch them without patching.

Update:
  • Illustrator Beta crashes on launch.
  • Premiere Pro Beta works without patches.
  • After Effects Beta works without patches.

Typo fixed! 5900X indeed.

Thank you. I've posted a link to a project, but the message is awaiting mod approval (I guess a Google drive link to a zip file is kinda suspicious...). Hopefully it'll be available eventually.

It's not the most performance-testing project file. But if you guys can open it, that's an amazing first step.

A better way to really test the power of a Threadripper would be something like the PugetBench benchmark.

@CaseySJ

I am not sure if this works. But for just environment variable, try this without Automator.

In Terminal:
sudo nano ~/.bash_profile

add this line to the above file:
export MKL_DEBUG_CPU_TYPE=2

^O to save it
^X to exit

Let's see if Photoshop can start or not...

I tried, but since it's a 600MB file, that's not going to work. I'll try to put together a smaller test project.

On a new install of BS with no 3rd party apps installed, I just installed After Effects Beta (with Media Encoder beta), Premier Pro Beta and illustrator Beta.

None of the patches/fixes for Photoshop etc have been applied.

After Effects, Media Encoder, and Premier Pro load out of the box without any issues.

Illustrator crashed.
