Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ I've had the same issue @nghesi had - Vision D + 10900k. I'll answer the questions you posted:
  • F_USB had the BT cable from both Fenvi & Youbo WiFi/BT cards. I also tested it with nothing plugged into F_USB => Same result
  • Fenvi T919 initially, then bought the Youbo one that is recommended => Same Result
  • Tested with Logitech MX Keys & MX Master 3 as well as wired keyboard and mouse. => Same result
  • Monitor is an LG 32 inch
  • Tested using both DisplayPort & HDMI cable. No video adapters
  • No other PCIe devices other than my 5700 XT. But I also tested it without the GPU and just the iGPU => Same result
Same result => Machine sleeps, the front light goes off. The post code LEDs go off. Then the machine never wakes up. Whats strange is that this happens both in Windows & macOS.

I tried everything under the sun (no GPU, different PSU, different memory, inside & outside the case, wired keyboard & mouse) and ended up returning the Gigabyte MB since I narrowed it down to a defective MB. I know that sounds crazy but I couldn't imagine what else it would be.

@CaseySJ or anyone having the MB. Can you guys confirm what the behavior is for correct wake from sleep:

  • Do the blue lights on the MB turn off during sleep?
  • Do the post code LEDs turn off?
I want to give this another shot because of the awesome guide posted by Casey :)
Perhaps the problem is with the WiFi/BT card? Were you able to test sleep/wake without that card plugged in?

Regarding sleep:
  • All LEDs on the motherboard turn off.
  • The POST Code LED turns off.
  • If you have RGB memory DIMMs, the RGB lights will stay ON.
  • But nothing else should be illuminated.

Running Handbreak with "Apple 2160p60 4K HEVC Surround (AppleVideoToolBox)", I see GFX AVG up to about 4.2 and GFX REQ up to about 1.2, but a lot of variation.

Running Handbreak with "Apple 1080p60 Surround (AppleVideoToolBox)" I see GFX AVG up to about 5.3 and GFX REQ up to about 0.56, again with a lot of variation.

Just installed Casey's latest OC 0.6.2 so it is the SMBIOS that was delivered with that. CPU is i9-10900K.

Interesting, I don't seem to have the AppleVideoToolBox codecs in handbrake, just the VideoToolBox codecs (H264,H265) and when I use handbake it's using CPU only; neither the RX5700XT or the iGPU...

Thanks for the quick reply casey.

Yes I tried it without any WiFi/BT card plugged in and had the same result :( The only thing I didn't try was to change the monitor. But that couldn't possibly cause issues, could it?

I'll order it again and hope the one I had was a defective one.

I ran:

Code:
log show --predicate 'process == "kernel"' --style syslog --source --last boot | grep -i IGPU

and it seems to be referencing KBL Graphics, which on one hand makes sense because it's the same iGPU as the 7-series Kaby Lake... BUT...Dortania guide shows the same output with CFL Graphics as an examples (Coffee Lake, 8-Series) so I'm expecting to see CML Graphics (Comet Lake)...
TLDR; Maybe I should try to force/Define the Device-ID? (0x9BC5)... the search continues.

EDIT: adding device ID changed nothing. Hmmmm....

Setting SecureBootModel from Disable to Default made the intel WIFI working
But it looks like Thunderbolt is not working? :shifty:(with either Disable or Default)
(i don't have anything plugged in Thunderbolt for the moment)

Looks like SecureBootModel might be having unforeseen consequences:
  • Aquantia 10Gb Ethernet cards seem to work when this is enabled.
  • Download and installation of Big Sur public betas work when this is enabled.
  • In my case even WiFi, Bluetooth, and Thunderbolt are fully working when this is enabled (Fenvi FV-T919).
  • In your case, OpenIntelWireless driver for WiFi (AirportItlwm.kext) does not seem to work when this is enabled.
Regarding Thunderbolt, what symptoms do you see? Please note that System Information --> Thunderbolt must not be used unless your Thunderbolt firmware has been flashed. To check if Thunderbolt is active, look in System Information --> PCI.

My bad! Thunderbolt looks OK then
But yes, for AirportItlwm.kext (and BT handsoff) to work, i need SecureBootModel to Default.

I wonder if this should be reported to the OpenIntelWireless team or the Acidanthera team?

from Earlier Version to New Version **

...
  • Reboot the system and press F12 at BIOS splash screen to open the BIOS boot menu (not OpenCore Picker).
  • Select the USB flash disk.
After the reboot>Select USB flash disk... I receive the warning at BIOS splash screen and then I need to do a force restart with power/reset button ( don't know why every image captured with iPhone ends up being sideways, sorry about that):
