How to Create a macOS Big Sur Installation USB

Status
Not open for further replies.
I finally got around to switching from Clover to OC 0.6.1 on my Catalina drive. Tried to install the Big Sur Beta to a new NVMe but after a few aborted installs, I remembered that the Beta won't convert MacOS Extended drives to APFS so had to reformat the new drive I was installing to manually to get it to work. All good now and it even sleeps... Although waking is another issue altogether as all I get on wake is two black screens.

Successfully installed on my Asus Prime H270-pro. But audio and LAN not working.

Fresh Install on ASUS Z370 MAXIMUS X HERO at work and update ASUS PRIME Z270-P at home from 10.15.6 without any problem. My hackin0shs are working perfect. THANKS TO TONYMACX86 and other guys that shares their hard works.

macOS 11.0 (20A5374i), iMac17,1
Motherboard: ASUS Prime 270 PLUS (Kaby Like) [I have bought it few years ago after recomendations of Tonymacx86.com!]
Processor: Inter Core i3 3,9 Ghz
Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB, display FHD
RAM: 16GB Crucial 2400 Mhz DDR4
SDD: XPG SPECTRIX S40G (system, efi) +4 old hdd
Sound ok, Updated Lilu, AppleALC, Whatevergreen, VirtualSMC, RealtekRTL8111;
Wifi/BT: pci Fenvi T919, Apple Magic Keyboard, working out of the box wifi 2,4 & 5Ghz, Airport, Airdrop, etc.

Hmm, success with installation from usb drive and EFI with OpenCore 0.6.1. Standard upgrade from the system failed. After reboot, the installer couldn't find any APFS drive to upgrade. I had to use Time Machine to restore Catalina.

Finally, I made USB installation disk and tested OC EFI again on Catalina. I used OC-Gen-X.app to generate config.plist. Really awesome software - it worked perfectly.
The rest were some cosmetic changes like GUI for booting.

Remember about proper boot arguments! Also it is worth to remember about copying the same serial numbers as they were in Clover config.plist.

System (beta 6, 7, 8, upgrades on a fly) seems to work faster. Booting time faster than in Clover.

I am not the first to say, OpenCore is the future.

Would you share your EFI for MAXIMUS X HERO? I did not get OpenCore working. The documentation is a bit confusing to me.

Hi, I have a 14.2 iMac - Hackintosh, and even though I enrolled in the Beta Program, Apple won't let me download Big Sur Beta either directly or as an update. How can I get a copy of the beta to test it on another rig ??

Thanks

Manuel
