X299 Big Sur Support

The new 10core iMac is a really good value and performance if you need a real Mac and those comps have the 10xxx CPUs. The 10 core is faster than the 10/12 core iMac Pro it seems (especially single core performance).

If you are a professional audio person like this guy that requires high end PCIe cards, then a Mac Pro (2019) would be more suitable for a real Mac.

For X299 I suggest MacPro7,1, which is what I've been using for a while with zero issues.

Also myself and a few other people were very early adopters of OpenCore and it was messy back then, now it's much much better and not all over the place like before. Of course it still requires knowledge to edit the config manually, but the documentation and tutorials are really good by now.

I'm personally a graphic design professional (more on the high end motion graphics side) and personally just need many fast cores and a lot of RAM for all the Adobe apps to be open (I use almost all of them at the same time). I love how snappy the 18core Hackintosh is for my day to day work...however, time is money for me and I think I could live with a 10core iMac for now until the Mac Pro has better specs at the base level. I can easily afford a $15,000 Mac Pro but I don't see why I would get it if maybe new Intel CPUs are around the corner, and let's not forget ARM and where Apple is headed with the Mac. I think I will just get a 10 core iMac for now and part out the Hackintosh, unless someone buys this thing i spent hundreds of hours if not thousand to perfect haha.
@izo1 I was told that, with my Vega 56, I should stay on iMac Pro 1,1 but I am curious about Mac Pro 7,1. Would you advise against it or give it a shot? I can do it on a clone, of course. I am in pro audio/music.

I believe I just need to add MacProMemoryNotificationDisabler.kext and change the SMBIOS?

WEG not needed with SMBIOS MacPro7,1 , just add the SSDT.

@pieropontra @Loloflatsix & others.
I have been working in the Music industry for more than 20 years. I was fortunate to participate to more than 30 millions records as a Producer, Engineer and Musician so I should probably say that my work speaks for itself.

I have bought more Mac & MacPros that I can count. Five years ago I was introduced to Hackintosh by one of the most prominent Voice Over Artist in the movie industry ( I live in Los Angeles ). After some thoughts, research & convincing…I finally jumped in with X299.

Best decision I ever made. I will never go back as long as Hackintosh lives & here’s why:
After spending thousands & thousands of dollars in music & audio outboard equipment ( Amps, preamps, compressor, channel strip, keyboards, Fx processors & so on ); Technology have made great progress in reproducing these precious items “Inside the Box” via plugins, virtual instruments & sound profilers ( I still use a Kemper profiler for Guitar ) . The Vienna Symphony Orchestra lives in my Hack as well as Grand Pianos like Bosendorfer, Steinway & so on. Yes all of those are processor & disk space hungry and if you do not have a good machine, it will create audio lag/latency that are nightmares for engineers. Lots of Audio professionals still uses the 50/50 method ( Half Computer /Half Outboard Equipments ) to save processing power but I believe the future resides in the full ”in box” conversion. As far as I’m concerned 18 cores might not be enough for some of us but my hack is still faster than the 28 core Mac Pro. ( 10353 pts in Cinebench vs 9944 for the 28c MacPro ). So buying a 28c MacPro? No thank you.:crazy:

Because of Covid 19, I was forced to work from home therefore made more investments in better speakers, Acoustic diffusers, Bass traps, Room tuning correction and so forth. I’m going less and less to big expensive studios that charge by the day, and again I have my Hackintosh to thank for. I have a second hack in the making, with obviously more processor power, not less :clap:.
I cannot really give advice on an entry level audio interface but it seems that the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is one of the best for it’s price range.

I mostly use Protools & Cubase for my work. My main Audio Monitors/Speakers are the Focal Twin6Be & my main Audio card is a PCIe RME HDSpe AIO.
The audio plugins I use most are from PlugIn Alliance. ( Mix & Mastering Bundle ) They sound amazing. I also use the Lexicons, Khs, Waves & Izotope.
I will probably use an Apogee Synphony I/O for my second Hack with a PCie Dante Soundcard.
My touch screens are fully functional in OSX thru the UPDD software.

I’m still using iMac Pro 1,1. Super stable. No bug. I might change to MacPro 7,1 for Big Sur in the future ( Using Big Sur only as a test drive right now )

Enjoy your week-end and if you read all my thesis, kudos to you, :lol:
Stay safe

YES! Will try ASAP. Curious if there is any 'tangible' benefit?
And just to confirm, remove Whatevergreen and add MacProMemoryNotificationDisabler?

Good question : for me closer to our desktop build , but wait for other opinion ;)

Just noticed you also have Vega 56's - is this the SSDT you're using?

Yes: it's mine that I shared with Kgp, I created a custom PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable ;)
[I still have the Excel file for it ]

I can recognize her here 0xA7 :
Code:
 "PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable",
                                Buffer (One)
                                {
                                    /* 0000 */  0xA7,

So my first boot got the Apple screen but froze immediately. I recovered with a clone drive and put WEG back in and I just booted Mac Pro 7,1!
Did I miss something when I disabled the WEG kext?

Also, is this ok? I have all of my RAM slots used
