X299 Big Sur Support

In addition to the Asmedia USB 3.1 and on Sage II USB 3.2 they all seem to be supported natively without any 3rd party kext but in addition on the Sage II it has 4 Intel USB 2 they also seem to be supported Natively OOB.

Is it necessary to Add items to DeviceProperties or is this just mostly a cosmetic thing. I read that if you add your audio device in DeviceProperties you can eliminate the boot-arg's in NVRAM both keepsyms=1 and alcid=1 or just alcid=1 and leave keepsyms=1?
This is correct. If your layout-id is set in your device properties you do not need alcid=X
keepsyms=1 is a setting to help you read your logs upon KP. Unrelated to Audio.

In case anyone is interested by such things ...

Diskutil plist
Once located ( look for APFS Volume Preboot ):
Put first the desired icon to be used on your desktop; rename it: .VolumeIcon.Icns

When I tried to save the name change, then the pop-up message comes up, thus I can not rename it.
Any assistance will be appreciated. Thank you. Big Sur Beta5, OP 0.6.0

  1. In Finder Press Command+Shift+Dot
  2. Your hidden files will become visible.
  3. Rename with dot is now possible !
  4. Repeat step 1 to hide them again!
Friend, These are basic commands in OSX

P.S. : You might need to unseal your APFS Volume. Read page 1 of this thread regarding this process. (APFS Snapshot)

Thanks for your help guys! I already defined my audio-layout-id in device properties as 07 00 00 00 and actually audio works ok (a part for FaceTime KP) should I try different ids? could it change anything?

I tried latest builds of AppleALC and Lilu as advice, even with arg -alcbeta, but KP occurs in any case. There's something more I can try (like changing ID) or I just gotta wait for next beta and see if Apple ironed out the bug eventually?

Yes, File a bug report to the acidanthera team @ AppleALC.kext

Second & best option: Trash your Asus Mobo & get a Gigabyte
( Joking obviously...or not  )

Ahahah I was actually considering buying a Gigabyte board, lately it seems ASUS is messing with bioses! I'm not an expert of their boards.

@izo1

Hi,

i take this opportunity to ask you something since we have the same mobo.
In my Sage, even with the latest bios 3203, if i set ABOVE 4G DECODING to on, everything works. But if in the bios menu i active the thunderbolt and restart, above 4g decoding is automatically reset to OFF. So that above 4g decoding remain set to on i have to disable thunderbolt in the bios. Does this happen to you?

I don't have that problem.

Above 4G enabled (Set to Auto in the sub setting to) and TB settings both enabled (With SL0 Security) and no problem.

Above 4G is required for this board or you get a black screen.

If you are on Big Sur then can't help as I only had it on my MacBook Pro. Still on Catalina on my end.

It definitely sounds like a bug with Big Sur. It's beta after all and Apple made major changes in Big Sur that Acidanthera is still trying to catch up with.

You might want to disable AppleALC for now and use a USB DAC or something for now or roll back to an actual public release like Catalina :)

As you can see, if i set above 4g decoding to OFF, the submenu appears where I can set FIRST VGA 4G Decode to AUTO. If instead i set 4g decoding to ON, the FIRST VGA 4G Decode submenu disappears.

See here:

Link doesn't seem to be working.

Today Amazon should deliver an M-Audio Air 192/6 to my door, I bought it to replace my old little USB preamp for my guitar. Hopefully the KP will not be present on USB interface, but I'll keep watching this on future betas.

Generally speaking, it's still correct now to say that Z390 (maybe Z490, too) is a better suitable and more compatible/stable platform for hacks with iMac SMBIOS than X299 on iMacPro1,1 / MacPro7,1 ? 10700K seems to be a little bad boy at his price point ;-)
