Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

it seen for Z170-UD5-TH a strange case, discover under linux. for THB3, a component that the firmware are not update and need too be update for xhpc_xpc. The issue is that this firmware could be updated if the versson is update by firmware update.

@xtreem.p,

Which version of BIOS do you have on the Z170X UD5? Is it the latest version?

The Dark Rock Pro is a tight fit but I did not have to change anything to get it in.

  • Is there enough of a gap or clearance between the fan and the G.Skill Ripjaws DIMMs?
There is about a half inch between the fan and the ram.
  • Is there enough of a gap or clearance between the heat sink and the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT?
The gap is small but it does not touch the card. I was able to get a butter knife (I know, not the best tool) between the heat sink and the card to release it.
  • Is the GPU in Slot 1?
Yes, the GPU is in slot 1

Question about backup, can you answer please
When I am making backup of my main drive, first time in carbon copy cloner what I have to choose? Data backup? Or bootable backup?
And script by default is set like N, not test (version 2)
When I am making backup second time I got errors, all of them related to Safari cashes files. Is it ok?

You're right -- in version 2 of EFIClone, TEST_SWITCH is disabled by default (set to "N"). Although the script has been tested, it's a good idea to set this to "Y" in order to perform a test run. The DESTINATION disk should be the bootable backup disk. If you have any questions about this, please post a screenshot of Carbon Copy Cloner so I can better understand the issue.

@byteminer, is this intentional?

To All:

Is anyone else using Corsair Vengeance 16GB DIMM modules? If so, please let us know if your system can boot with X.M.P. Profile 1 enabled on a Z490 Vision D or Vision G.

Yes, i'm using them (RGB) with X.M.P. Profile 1 without any problem (4x16GB).

So, I was a dumb ass, and I forgot Catalina no longer fits on an 8GB stick.

Having said that, I took my SSD from the old I7 Z77 and just replaced the Clover EFI directory with the OpenCore one from this build download. Booom!! With a couple of minor tweaks it all works. Now I want to build on an NVMe drive eventually, but my SSD is getting 500 read/write, so it's not exactly urgent. May just wait for Big Sur. I installed Win10 Pro on the new NVMe drive, and OpenCore is dual booting. There is a lot of functionality I don't care about on the Mac side. I have an external USB audio DAC. I pulled the bluetooth module out completely because I don't need WiFi, and I have a USB bluetooth dongle. My mobo shipped with F2, and I updated to F5. On balance this was too easy. Something will obviously go horribly wrong soon ;-) Even VMware seems to work fine so far. I plan to use HyperV in Windows. My ultimate goal is to be ready when a hackintosh is no longer viable because of the move to ARM. I will eventually have to rely more heavily on Windows.

Anyone tried Big Sur Public Beta 2?
It seems to be working just fine on my box, safari seems to be working; was broken on the last beta if iGPU was enabled. Sleep works.
