Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Hi,ICEVISION
Nice nzxt bulid!
I have a problem with same build, I updated opencore 0.6.1beta using Casey's OC-060-VISION-D efi
then I fresh installed 10.15.6 (19G2021) using Imac 20,1 smbios
eveything works fine, except bluethooth doesn't work anymore
both bluethooth firmware version and mac address are missing,
I am using Fenvi FV-T919 card and i7 10700k with vision d
Can you share your efi file without your board Serial
where I can check what setting I was missing.
Thanks

To positively determine whether the Bluetooth problem is related to OpenCore 0.6.1, please try the original OpenCore 0.6.0 EFI again to see if Bluetooth does indeed still work.

quick question:

I did the update to OC 0.6.0 and everything is smooth sailing except now I have the "install MacOS" coming up when I boot up as the first option, as well as MacOS but since its listed first, If I don't manually select MacOS (which I usually do anyway) it will go into installation mode. This wasnt like his before the update.

I noticed a bunch of Recovery partitions when I use the MountEFI utility so im sure I need to delete one but a little unsure how or which one to delete as Ive never done that sort of thing... #noob
  • After updating to OpenCore 0.6.0 did you update macOS?
  • Or you're running the same version of macOS now as before the 0.6.0 update?
  • If the only thing that changed is OpenCore, then try Reset NVRAM from the OpenCore Picker menu.
  • But if you subsequently updated macOS itself (e.g. if you installed 10.15.6 Supplemental Update after switching to OpenCore 0.6.0), then it may be necessary to download the Combo Updater from Apple and re-install the Supplemental Update.
  • Also double check that your MSR 0xE2 (CFG-Lock) is unlocked. If you're on BIOS F5, then no worries -- it is unlocked by default.

Thanks CaseySJ for the quick reply

Still on 10.15.5. I didnt update to 10.15.6 yet. Just updated OC to 0.6.0. Perhaps I should run that update but not sure that would correct the issue. I did try resetting the NVRAM using the command in the OpenCore boot menus but didnt fix it. I am on the new BIOS F5 as well.

You don't think its as simple as deleting a recovery partition from one of the disks? Perhaps its more complicated than I presumed.

In your screenshot...

...we see that bsd_autoconf called kminit, which took 23 seconds. However, and this is important, messages in the log file are asynchronous. Several threads and processes are simultaneously sending information to the logs.

Question:
  • Every time you reboot the computer, do you see the same delay at the same place?
  • If not, then the rest of this reply can be ignored.
If we look at the macOS source code, we find that a function called bsd_autoconf exists in the xnu kernel code (bsd_init.c) and logs the message you see in your screenshot. It then calls kminit.

The function kminit is also part of the xnu kernel code and is shown below. It's located inside a file called km.c, which is the kernel keyboard/monitor module.
Based on this alone, we can ask some questions:
  • What is the make and model of your keyboard?
  • Is it powered on and connected during boot?
Thanks for the detailed response! It's a Logitech G512 and it is powered on and connected during boot.

If you update to 10.15.6, this problem should go away. As always, have a full bootable backup ready.

Hi! I just wanted to say I tried with this driver https://openintelwireless.github.io/ and I was able to connect to wifi using the native intel cnvi card... so far it´s working... I had to try to connect a few times.. but it seems working.
I´ll keep you guys posted... the latest version was released today! :D
Btw: I was able to enable the bluetooth on the cnvi card as well with the guide provided in the first page of this thread.
Of course, I´m not able to use airdrop.... but wifi and bluetooth seem to be working great so far without buying any additional card...
Not sure if it´s working great... but here´s my speedtest.

Please try this:
  • Turn off WiFi
  • Plug Ethernet cable into either of the two Ethernet ports
  • Run the speed test again
  • What do you see?
I suspect both the download and upload speeds over Intel WiFi are quite slow.

If 20 seconds is really bothersome, please search Google and try some independent experimentation. For example, you can also install fresh copy of Catalina on a spare SSD and see if the delay occurs there as well. If so, then it's a process of elimination. Try removing components or using different components (if available) to see if you can find a correlation.

My typical boot time from the OpenCore picker to Login is now around the ~35 second mark. With my specs, could it be quicker? I added the -v flag to your config.plist to see where it hangs most noticeably and took a picture. Disk3s2 refers to the Apple_APFS partition on my Catalina Backup SSD - this typically hangs for about 8-10 seconds. Can this be remedied?

I've just done a quick experiment - Cloned my 10.15.6 updated install to the Crucial Sata 2.5" SSD and compared boot times.

Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB M.2 - 35 seconds
Crucial BX200 960GB SATA 2.5" SSD - 18.5 seconds

I thought the M.2 boot was a tad slow, but literally half the time on a SATA drive? Got to be something wrong here?
