[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

So I am still running Catalina, 10.15.1 on this build, I know 10.5.6 is out and I am pretty far behind, but the last time I UPDATED 10.15 > 10.15.1, I had to completely wipe my drive and start from scratch.

Any advice on how to get to the latest build without destroying the hack?
Sure... Always start with a full bootable backup. And then refer to this post in the Quick Reference spoiler in Post 1. Although it says Upgrading from Already-Installed Catalina to Catalina 10.15.4, it applies to anything after 10.15.4 as well.

Wonderful! What changes were needed (any AGDP patches for example)? Any lessons learned that could help the community?

I guess that the issue that prevented it from working with Clover were the new kexts not being injected due to the kernel cache.
I used kext utility several times, but as you mentioned, it may not work properly on Catalina

I guess the lesson is always use the manual touch work around

Just wanted to report that that installing the experimental Intel Bluetooth driver according to this guide worked for me, though only partially. If anyone faced similar issues as listed bellow, please, share your solutions:
1) AirPods are connected properly and I get the sound, however, the microphone is not working.
2) I could connect my Pixel 4 phone and send a file from hackintosh to the phone, but I couldn't do it the other way around. Also, when I click Connect or "Connect to network" on my computer in bluetooth preferences, it says connected for the first 5 seconds and then reverts back to "Not connected".

Another question, is it possible to use the headphones with 3-pin connector with our MB or a splitter is necessary? I tried all of the ports and I could only get the sound to work, but not the microphone. Also, when I tried it with the splitter, I could only get it fully working with using the ports on the back of the case, though there are 2 ports on the top/front of the case, specifically for headphones and microphone. Sound works, but microphone doesn't, even with the splitter. Is there any config I could change to get the front microphone input to work?

Hello CaseySJ,

I am thinking I might migrate from Clover to OC 0.6.0
Just wondering if the instructions for installing OC on the Designare Z390 will work for my system? (Z390 Aorus Xtreme) I'm guessing if so, once I have replaced the contents of my EFI folder with that of the USB EFI, I would also need to copy across the kexts and patches that are applicable to my MB?

My current Patches are:

SSDT-DESIGNARE-Z390-NO-CNVW.aml
SSDT-DTPG.aml
SSDT-EC.aml
SSDT-GPRW.aml
SSDT-NVRAM.aml
SSDT-RX 5700 XT-Version 1.0.aml
SSDT-UIAC-AORUS-EXTREME-Z390-V3.aml
SSDT-Z390-AORUS-EXTREME-TB3HP-V4.aml

My Current Kexts: (The below kexts are also the most up to date versions)

AppleALC.kext
DAGPM.kext
IntelMausi.kext
Lilu.kext
SmallTreeIntel82576.kext
SMCProcessor.kext
SMCSuperIO.kext
USBInjectAll.kext
VirtualSMC.kext
WhateverGreen.kext

** Also on a seperate topic, do you know if there has been any progress yet with liquidctl and its RGB Fusion 2 support for the z390 Aorus Xtreme MB. If not, I am also considering turning my hack into a true dual boot (Windows / MacOS) system rather than using Windows as a VM. This may also assist down the track when I upgrade to the Z490 Aorus Xtreme :) If my partner allows me to spend the money :)

Yes those instructions should work for the AORUS Xtreme, but as you pointed out, some of the SSDTs and Kexts are different. So if you modify the OpenCore config.plist accordingly, it should work just fine.

Liquidctl 1.4.1 is available now and supports Gigabyte RGB Fusion 2.0. I would be very interested to see if it works on the AORUS Xtreme (it should). Please refer to the following post for full details:

A splitter is needed, but when using the front headphone and microphone jacks it might be necessary to try different Layout IDs. We use 11 by default, but you may also try 16, 7, and 1. Each Layout ID has its pros and cons so we need to find one that suits us best.

If you're using OpenCore, layout ID is specified in the alcid parameter in NVRAM --> Boot Arguments.

If you're using Clover, layout ID may either be in Devices --> Properties or in Boot Arguments.

Hi all, sorry another quick question.

If I open a folder with lots of photos (I'm talking around 15GB worth of photos), and if try and scroll through them (whilst clicking random ones to show a quick preview) quickly using my apple mouse, it often lags quite a bit (with the preview. I faintly remember recalling that we have to do some form of iGPU fix in order for preview to better display JPEGs, or is that a moot point now, or, is there something else I should be doing?

Thanks

Hello.
As I said earlier in this enormous post, I was successful in installingCatalina with that guide:

All is perfect, but I have two problems. Both of them I think are fully reported, but there are lot of solutions and I'm lost!

1. Sleep mode: Then I left the computer ON, for a long time (i.e. the whole night), at morning the fans are all ON.
Is there a way of entering in Sleep mode and switching OFF the fans?

2. In that situation, for recovering from Sleep, I have to press the computer "switch on" button for rebooting it. Keyboard and mouse don't respond.

3. When I force "Sleep mode" at the Apple system menu (apple logo), It goes to sleep but in less than a minute it restarts.

I can obviously switch off the computer every time instead of going to sleep, but what do you think solutions are?

Thank you for your help.
Fernando
