No. You need to change the sections in the config accordingly as well as clear out the contents of /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. If you're using iCloud, signing out helps avoid potential collisions or conflicts that could arise. Macs don't change their hardware and iCloud stores a lot of configurations and other local cache that may cause problems unless you sign out completely. Clearing NVRAM is also good form.

If all you're doing is testing, making a separate test account that does not have your iCloud information is the way to go. It can save you headache in the future.

Agree logging out out of iCloud is recommended but even when I’ve forgotten it’s never ever been an issue.

But while I have the ears/eyes of you experts, I'd like to ask another question if I may:

1. Have you guys, or anyone else for that matter, tried using Catalina's 5700xt drivers on Mojave? Would that even work? If anyone can tell me exactly which files I'd need to copy over from Catalina->Mojave, I'm willing to test it out, as my current build is essentially a test machine right now.

I'm finding that Catalina breaks a lot of software that I've come to depend on to the point where I don't think I can use it as a production machine until developers update things. It would be ideal to have Mojave til then, but with 5700xt driver support.

2. Can you guys recommend any Mac stress-testing software that targets only the CPU? And another one that target only the GPU? Call me a masochist, but I'd like to replicate the sizzle-crackle-pop experience that happened to my GPU once when I watched about 2 seconds of 4k Netflix, and recently when running Cinebench R20 in 1080p. I was never able to replicate that with neither Netflix nor Cinebench again. TBH, I'm not even 100% sure if it was the GPU that made the noise. Perhaps it was the CPU.

I'm thinking that those are the only parts that could have made that noise. I'd like to isolate the actual source of the problem before I start the arduous process of RMA'ing.

Hey @sosurim, unfortunately Catalina Navi drivers will not work in Mojave, its just how Apple has it set. Catalina only runs 64 bit apps so that maybe what you are having issues with if programs aren't behaving as expected.

Cinebench seems to be the application everyone goes to, found this but no idea if it viable.

@sosurim Unigine is a great one for GPU. It'll push your card into the red. Furmark is another good one. I find both a better alternative than Cinebench, especially if you're trying to OC your GPU. Furmark is exceptional at handling quick adjustments on the fly. And it clocks in at something like 30MB. Great utility.

If you want to stress your CPU, give Intel's Power Gadget a try. There's an option to basically hit full throttle. You can also do this via terminal, you don't need something like GeekBench which is horrendous garbage and not at all reliable (run it 10 times and write down the scores each time; you'll see the variance).

Yeah, that's right. I figured there will be some turbulence with some mainstream apps, and maybe I could (or not) deal with those. But it's problems with basic input/output that's making Catalina intolerable.

I'm a southpaw, and have been using Razer Orochi ambidextrous mouse for a long time. Just realized the other day their driver, Razer Synapse, will not work with Catalina. It's been EOL'ed with Mojave and Razer will not make any more macOS drivers. It still has basic mouse functions, but all custom buttons are lost.

My backup, Logitech G900, another ambi mouse also has problems with Catalina. Upon booting into macOS, it gets stuck into X DPI which makes pointer move like molasses. I have to reboot into Win10 and use the driver there to reset the DPI. The support page is apparently filled with people complaining about all sorts of Catalina problems. I didn't know. I was just blissfully ignorant while using it with my last build that had High Sierra.

But what's going to break the camel's back is my Ergodox keyboard showing weird problems under Catalina. I had a custom QMK driver installed around 6 years ago, and I can't for the life of me figure out what I'd modified so I can recompile it correctly. Even now, it won't let me flip into colemak, forcing me to use qwerty, thus halving my typing speed.

If you mean install Big Sur beta? Sure, if he has a separate disk for install or at least that’s how I would set it up. Meanwhile what you are asking results in the same issue, you can’t take drivers from a newer version and expect them to work in an older version of OSx. You can often use older drivers on a newer version but not the other way around.
