[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Serious question about memory: Apple iMac, iMac Pro, and Mac Pro support 2400MHz, 2666MHz, and 2933MHz speeds in ECC & non-ECC. On the Z390 Designare with 64GB 3600MHz memory, if you set the Extreme Memory Profile 1 (X.M.P.) can that cause issues in macOS since Apple doesn't have unbuffered memory over 2666MHz? I've noticed better overall stability on my Hackintosh with XMP disabled and memory running at 2400MHz. Also, performance degradation with it off is negligible. Thoughts?
I have disabled XMP and memory speed is 2666MHz instead of 3200MHz. Wake from sleep is noticeably faster now, magic trackpad and keyboard are available instantly, and of course there're no issues with USB drives disconnecting.

I didn't notice performance degradation in my normal workflows, so I don't think I will enable it again...

Hi Casey, long time no talk! I have a few questions about this mini-guide...

1) it specifies for AMD only, will there be intel coming out soon?
I'll add an iGPU config.plist to that post shortly.
2) it looks like MSR 0xE2 is now integrated into this package, and there is no longer a need for a separate usb drive for this...?
Correct. I've just added a new subsection at the bottom of that post called How to Unlock MSR 0xE2 (CFG-Lock) the Easy Way.
3) will the drive visualization package be available soon as well for .0.6.0? I think it’s called NZK?
The N-D-K fork hasn't been updated in several months. However, standard OpenCore provides a GUI called OpenCanopy. A screenshot has been added to the 0.6.0 pre-release post.

** PRE-RELEASE: OpenCore 0.6.0 EFI for Z390 Designare **
Please do not quote this post in its entirely. Use a link instead.
Compatible with Catalina and Mojave
** Now compatible with both AMD GPU and Intel iGPU **

Please do not quote the entire guide as stated at the top. Imagine if everyone copied every guide over and over again. It would result in a tremendous volume of repetition and also a lot of wasted storage space.

Which config.plist are you using? Feel free to post that file here, but remove serial numbers from PlatformInfo section.

Good morning, Casey. After leaving it running all night, and turning the monitor on this morning, I found that the system was still running 100% with no freezes to anything, whereas the previous install froze all ports after performing the same test. Also occurred at random intervals (hours or minutes.) Firewire PCIe and Thunderbolt ports work (we both use a Firewire interface. I also have a TB2 interface with a dongle to TB3.) So I believe it's safe now to add a warning about Inland Premium M.2 drives being hit & miss. Again, it's now running on a WD Blue 1TB SSD. Thanks so much!!!

Hey a bit late to the game here, But I've been using the Inland nvme for the past 9 months or so and no problems.
In fact I've got a 1TB and a 2TB nvme installed. I am running Catalina 10.15.2 and will up grade to the latest today on my backup to see if there are any problems.

@CaseySJ

Thanks for sharing, I installed and everything works perfectly, I followed your tutorial.
The only one that didn't work is the Iphone SMS in the message, which is not synchronizing, do you have any suggestions. ?
Thank you

Hello @Rag,

Do you mean that the Messages app is:
  • Not logging in?
  • Logging in, but not sending any messages?
Have you tried signing out of iCloud, rebooting, and signing back in?

Hi @CaseySJ Thanks !!!!!

Yes, I logged out, restarted .. nothing .. the messages only arrive on the cell phone, but not on the MAC, I checked all the options in Messager, everything seems ok to me ... but they don't arrive

I finally tried to clean the folder:
library / preferences / systemconfiguration

It didn't work either ... all other things on icloud work ...

Welp can’t seem to upgrade from 10.15.2 to 10.15.6.
Replaced the ktexts, started the update via system prefs.
but no matter which install I select on the boot screen all I get is a white Apple logo on black screen.

I can’t even boot into the drive unless I use the backup drives uefi partition.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

I have a Dell U2720Q connected via HDMI and a Dell U2417H connected via a DP cable to my ASRock z390 with IGPU only. On boot - both monitors light up and display the OpenCore boot menu. Both monitors display loading the apple boot menu - then halfway through the 27 inch (connected via HDMI) goes blank. At the login menu, I restart the 27 inch via the power button and both light up properly. Sleep and wake is normal. I suppose this should also work for you. Here are some settings I use
  • I have an IGPU Multi monitor option in the BIOS that I have set to enable > I personally don't think this does much.
  • Share Memory is 128 MB
  • IGPU Platform ID is 0x07009b3e and using iMac 19.1 sin SMBIOS
  • The frame buffer path has enable HDMI checked and looks like the attached (it will vary for your MB but you get the idea)
PS - DisplayPort daisy chaining only supports screen mirroring in mac's.

- I'm still using Clover, should OpenCore help with this issue?
- I don't see an option for multi-monitor on BIOS. My BIOS is set up exactly like this post suggests
- My platform ID is 0x3E9B0007, with iMac 19,1. Should I set that value on Hackintool? I'm using i7 9700k
- Your framebuffer patch tools different than the tutorial. Should that for the Designare @CaseySJ?
