Greetings! Looking for best options to upgrade (or update) my old signature HTPC. Multi-boot Win7, Win10 & High Sierra. Hi-Res music, multi-channel HD movies (eventually 4K) and some audio and video edition.
Thnks in advance!

Hi! Thanks for the tip: I use to read about those amazing builds, but way expensive and painful to set up, for me. Just wanted some advice if a new machine is worth it these days (considering the usage) or I could just upgrade CPU and/or memory (i.e.) and avoid messing with a new set.
Cheers!

I guess people define painful totally differently. However, both Pastrychef golden builds are, easy to set plugin all the hardware make your USB installer with Pasterychef's EFI folder and you should be on your way. There is no real upgrading your CPU maybe a 4th gen would fit your 3rd gen board but I do not know. You have an RX580 so that does not need to upgrade like the CPU and motherboard. Keep in mind that Apple is flipping a switch and 10th gen intel might be the last supported Generation as they move to Apple Silicon. What is way expensive because what is expensive to you is likely not the same for someone else.

You already have a case
You already have a PSU
You already have a Hard drive
You already have a video card

Below are upgraded motherboard CPU and Memory.

There is also a golden build for this board, the total of the three items is around $350.

@rilopes could upgrade to the i7-3770(K) but that's about it. Haswell 4th gen CPUs do not work on a Z77X motherboard. That socket has 1155 pins and Z87 has 1150.

Thanks for the budget build idea and info about Apple's hardware future move. Guess I'll wait for it...and for a few more bucks too!
