If you figure it out please post the solution, I have done this on a Lenovo T430s laptop easily, but I am just getting a black screen on this dell... :(
It seems like this thread is not dead! And neither is the solution for our little brain teaser here. I'm actually making progress and learning things about acpi and stuff via open core vanilla guide. As our machine is a haswell, the corresponding guide is quite self-explanatory. But you need patience. I'm beginning to understand how elegantly it can be done via open core. You should give it a try too! It's actually quite amazing how this works! Let's work together and keep each other posted!
@BillyGoatGruff - are you aware of the fact that you seem to confuse this 9030 thread with a 9010?
@thedtm - what do you think about our machine? there is a forking road in my work. Does our AIO count as a laptop or a desktop computer? Last night I opted for desktop and continued that path. Maybe you try out the laptop guide for Haswell.

Hi BillyGoatGruff,
I'm sorry if I got your message wrong! In this case I would say that you could feel safe about flashing wrong bios firmware because it is usually checked whether it is suitable for your system or not. If the Bioses are comparable then check out the last sections. there is (on 9030 machines) a checkbox to allow downgrading. If this is true for your 9010 maybe this option might be helpful. I keep my fingers crossed for you

im trying several different things, different versions... sometimes after a long wait, I do get the installer, but when I go to format it reboots... I set it to AHCI in the bios as recommended... still troubleshooting

well, well, well... there is quite a bunch to learn.
so far: vanilla open core guide is recommended. Christitus for an online search might yield some video referring to a haswell model. Use Linux Mint with internet connection on your Dell to easily follow the guide to the letter (dumping dsdt and SSDTTime is a bliss!!! using gib to download a fresh Catalina and go for "gathering files". purged folders as per guide and used proper tree to edit the standard config.plist which shipped with the 0.5.9 open core release. step by step by step. sanity checker: all systems go. BUT:
AppleFSCompressionTypeZlib kmod start is a bad message.
starting from scratch (is this thingy a bloody laptop?)

I have gotten mine to boot and function, but it takes like 20 minutes to load OSX.... the installer had the same issue as well, but it always eventually loaded. What I did was disable powersaving (S4, S5) in the bios and sleep within OSX, and I have tried sooo many versions of clover...

YOU'RE MY HERO!!! let me in on the details, please. You have tried sooo many versions of clover - does that mean you have switched to open core or did you stick with clover? If so, how? Please - I'm desperate to learn. Never had such a machine before!
Edit: what does it mean takes like 20 minutes to load OSX - even after post-installation procedures? That would render that computer useless. If that is true for clover we definitely need to switch to opencore. I'm really looking forward to your reply.
final note/question for today: which usb port (back/side) did you use?
additional info on opencore folder contents:
ACPI: SSDT-EC.aml, SSDT-PLUG.aml (dropped via Linux Mint and SSDTTime and as per table/grid in Haswell guide)
Bootstrap: Bootstrap.efi
Drivers: HfsPlus.efi, OpenRuntime.efi
Kexts: AppleALC.kext, IntelMausi.kext, Lilu.kext, SMCProcessor.kext, SMCSuperIO.kext, VirtualSMS.kext, WhateverGreen.kext (implemented automatically via OC Snapshot)
Tools: OpenShell.efi
config.plist as per Haswell guide
Two questions remain:
First question: iMac14,1 system definition with iGPU which contradicts minijack's recommended 14,2 definition as this would mean that it is with dGPU.
Second question: car-active-config for SIP flags - leave 00000000 as recommended or FF070000 to disable all flags for (Mojave and) Catalina?

Hi thedtm, you can't be serious! Please tell me you're not ditching us here! We're all anxious to know how you pulled it off! Please!

You said if it took 20 minutes to boot that the computer was useless....

So this part of my guesswork was right? How could I know? I was having so many questions which were left unanswered. I would have found it nice if you had told us how you managed to get that far (used USB port, oc/clover version and Catalina version combination, (version of) kexts/drivers, yaddayaddayadda) And even if it takes that long there might be a way to convert your (clover?) installation to OC which seems to be the only path left in the future as lily and whatever green are not going to updated any longer for clover. Even more - aren't you interested in improving your results? If I may - let me ask all the above questions again and I ask you to erase that one single sentence which must have been working like a motivation deterrence. That was never intended!
