[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

So my build was working fine, then I updated to Catalina and it would have lots of hangs doing simple stuff and copying in Finder, that it was unusable. So I had a mirror of my Samsung EVO in the second NVME slot that was still on Mojave, I try booting it but every time it hangs on login and gets completely stuck. I got a log of the kernel panic that it gave when I hit report on login, but then it froze. Any ideas? @CaseySJ ?

(Catalina still boots fine too)

EDIT: I'm an idiot, I was booting my Catalina EFI but Mojave SSD ‍♂️

We can check if HS08 and HS13 are working by:
  • Connecting a USB 2.0 device to either of the two Thunderbolt ports
  • Running IORegistryExplorer and scrolling down to XHC, then looking at subsections HS08 and HS13
    • Feel free to post a screenshot of the XHC section
I tried again and querying with IORegistryExplorer , and now I can see both my webcam and my pixel 4 on the TB ports working as USB 2.0. Weird that a USB-C smartphone would not implement USB3. Logically, the USB-C to USB-A adapter that comes with it won't support it either, so I can't really test USB3 on those ports.

Hi @CaseySJ and all! Has anyone managed to get location services working on their Hacks? As in, when you're on a website (for example a chain store) and you want to find what stores are near you, so you click the location button?

I could've sworn this worked for me at one point, but now doesn't. It's not a must have feature, but it doesn't work on Safari, or Firefox, and on ethernet or Wifi.

Thanks!

EDIT: Confirmed it works fine with Firefox and Wifi Enabled. Never works on Safari now?

Location Services have been working for me. When a website requests location information, Safari will prompt for a Yes/No answer. If yes, no problem -- the website will show me all store locations in my vicinity. Just tested with Starbucks.com.

Sorry just edited the OP, it doesn't work with Safari, but works fine with Firefox.

I click allow when the pop-up within Safari comes up, but still nothing (either says 'Can't find your location', or doesn't load)

Just wanted to report that my system has been working PERFECTLY with the inatek card all week. So far so good. NO USB FREEZES. I'm tempted to do a little experiment at some point putting certain devices on the MB USB ports and seeing what, if anything, fouls the system (like an ilok) but for now everything is plugged into the PCIe card and all is well. If anyone is having USB issues this might be the simple and cheap fix.

People are also confirming that OTG adaptors work too. They’re super cheap, 4 for under $10. Trying to find some usb a to a so I can just buy one for every usb 2 device.

This 4h to 6h window to solve the issue makes me think this may be related to capacitors. I'd test thoroughly before buying new hardware. Try a different PSU and if possible, test that Fenvi on another motherboard.
@phrfpeixoto , @CaseySJ ,

Hello guys thank you for answering.
I have to admit I'm desperate !!!
Just received my brand new Fenvi-T919.

It does not work neither.
The computer runs perfectly fine without it, on Windows and on Mac (No Bluetooth on Mac- and Ethernet Wired).
It just runs the POST test perfectly only once without it. Then never runs it again.

So this morning I tried plugging my brand new Fenvi-T-919, shopped from Amazon- Delivered from Fenvi Source.
The computer does not pass the POST test on it.
However if I plug in, after the Post Test has been done on the rest of the PC (fenvi Unplugged) the card will work (WIFI and BT works well). But, it will only work for 1 single boot. Which means when I shutdown the computer, it will try to run post test and not work, boot Looping.
I tried Clearing CMOS, which did not solve the problem.
I tried plugging into the PCI-Ex1 Slot which did not solve the problem.

Here are some Videos to help you understand the problem.

What can I do, I'm Desperate, and really rely on you help and your hands. :(
What can I test more ?

Thank you

USB Freezes:

@CaseySJ @kellymac12 @bmoney @brousseau6933 @boob @verendus

Okay for anybody that has been experiencing annoying and random USB Freezes over the last few weeks/months.
I 'may' have found a solution that works for me - so far..

After initially having quite severe freezes with a USB2 Logitech webcam starting back in April I initially thought it may have been my Softube Console 1 as the cause of the problem. It was having strange behaviour of buttons not working, lights not on etc. and tbh Softube forums were also full of users with similar problems.
After much head scratching, port-pulling, frustration, patience, a stint on Windows and roll back to Mojave on a second NVMe I started to read on here I wasn't alone.

I ask you to try the below:

Physically split all of your peripherals to either USB2 OR USB3 ports.

USB2
I now have all 11 of my USB2 peripherals on 2 x LINDY 7 port 5v USB Hubs going into HS09 & HS10
Play around with it and try and get a 'balance of power' on all items with the Current Available / Current Needed in the USB System Information dropdown.
eg. I found my Ableton Push 2 asking me to 'plug into a usb2 port please' in the system info.
(something I've not seen before) however moving to the other port and changing the USB cable it was fine.

USB3
Here I have a Elektron Overhub USB3 powered hub plugged in to SS07.
On here I have 2 x Lacie drives with music on.
I now have it placed on the desktop and can use anything like USB3 removable drives, USB sticks etc.

So as you can see below from the Hackintool grab my SSDT now contains a reduced amount of ports.

USB2 - HS09 & HS10
USB3 - SS07
Internal - HS11
XHC3 - SSP1
XHC3 - SSP2

Once you have whittled it down to how many peripherals, hubs, ports you are going to use you must then create a new SSDT making sure that USB3 is just that: USB3 ONLY and it is NOT sharing as a USB2 port.

Hope this helps :)

EDIT: Okay as for making the SSDT. Once I'd used IORegistryExplorer and System Info to work out what ports I'll be using I then used Hackintool or you can USBpoprt map to create the new SSDT. Copied and pasted the ports into @CaseySJ V7 SSDT - included below.

I am using USBInjectAll.kext (0.7.3)
SSDT-UIAC
SSDT-EC

I am on OpenCore 0.5.9.
NB: Sleep now works perfectly.
Also anybody with Fenvi problems - it's not the card it's how it's attached to the USB port.

Hello, all I've been lurking for a while and enjoying seeing this all play out. I'm just about to fire on a new system, I'm looking at going for:

  • Designare Z390
  • i9 9900k
  • 500gb Samsung Evo Plus (will check firmware version)
  • Corsair RM650i
  • 32gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4
  • Corsair iCue case
  • Corsair AIO cooler
I get a discount through a friend on Corsair stuff but I'm not particularly tied to it as a brand. I'm looking at making the order through Scan. I'm based in the UK.

I can get a Fenvi T919 from amazon, but if anyone can recommend anything else I could get through Scan for less than ~£50 that'd be very welcome. This will just be for hand-off/continuity stuff I plan on using ethernet for the connection.

Thanks in advance
Sam
