MSI Z490 Tomahawk + i7-10700k / Catalina 15.5.5 / OpenCore

I’m using an msi z490-a Pro with 10700k. Clover is not working at all, but using an open core efi folder from someone is working. Now I am trying to get lucy kext to work. It loads the Ethernet device in “network”, but says “no Ethernet cable is plugged in” even though it works in windows. Will try the efi folder here in a bit.

*ONLY with OPENCORE*

2.5G Ethernet (must force select a speed -- which you need to do by going to System Preferences -> Network -> Ethernet -> Advanced -> Hardware -> Speed: (select 1000baset if you are using a 1000t bridge/router))

I had 2 issues. First, the “no Ethernet is connected” issue I mentioned. Second, the computer stuttered and lagged every 5 seconds or so, and scored abysmally in geekbench. I ended up making my own open core efi using the instructions in the open core site, and that stopped the stutters. Then for Ethernet, I did what you wrote which I had also seen mentioned in another site (changing manual 2500 to t1000 or whatever the option is) and internet now works too.

@mitrovtsiy have you resolved audio issue?? I am having MSI Z270 board with i7 6700k. Was having issues with clover as the boot was miss or hit and random restart. So switched to OpenCore. Now the system is absolutely stable and working great. Initially was having issue with my audio with applealc and the audio was breaking. I used the method of inserting the pciroot and audio layout and it now works like a charm. You can give it a try. obtain your audio pciroot and insert it under DeviceProperties and insert the layout id as child in your config file. then try by inserting the layout id. My situation was also like yours until I inserted the actual and correct pciroot of my audio device.

I have a correct pciroot of my audio. As a device-id and layout-id.

in the future, would it be possible to solely use clover for LGA 1200 motherboards, rather then OpenCore? Also, is there a guide for new users to use OpenCore?

I want to be able to use Clover over OpenCore with the new 10th get. Maybe when some iMac with 10th gen appear, they will add it. But for now, there is no so much information about it.

There is a nice OpenCore guide. I use it when started with OpenCore.

Sound.

I use layout-id 1 with AppleALC.
For now, I moved voodoo hda. But there are soo many problems with it. Strange sound level, some glitches when playing youtube. But it works without going to sleep.

I would like to move back to AppleALC. But it looks like something must be fixed in OpenCore or in AppleALC itself.

Just to summarize the problem with AppleALC. All outputs appear, the system saw an audio card. But, there is no sound. I also noticed, that there is no quiet sound when system booting (I have it in the previous system). And it was like the system give power to speakers. And in this configuration (ALC1200), there is no sound on booting.
Also, at some moment I figured out, that sound appears after going out from sleep. So it looks like there are some problems with power (maybe, I'm not a big expert in audio).

Hello everyone. I am stuck with installing Catalina similar to zdamatii (as noted June 16th). Any help will be appreciated. I followed the opencore instructions. I'm using 5600xt with HMDI.

Hello again. To explain further, I followed the OpenCore instructions (downloaded ~480MB), then simply replaced the EFI from this initial thread and booted up. The end result is the screenshot noted above. I'm stuck.
