[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Okay - just to point something out about the iLok situation before everyone get's a hammer out and smashes them up.
I raised the question to @kellymac12 and @boob as I could see from their previous posts they had an iLok.
I have one too so my train of thought was it's a possibility.. that was all.
I'm pretty sure when my main USB freezes occurred (using Logitech webcam) the iLok was eventually unplugged through elimination.
I'm also pretty sure this card worked fine with the NVIDIA 1080 Ti I had installed previously.

So I don't think it's the iLok and I don't think some of us have bad mobos.

USB freezes for me have been:
Every time with Logitech USB webcam. Be it 5mins or 1hr 45mins. But it will freeze.
Occasionally with video and other video related items running. Yesterday Youtube video playing and Sketchup.
Other times random advert/videos are on screen safari etc. And gone..
Lastly, Ableton, Push 2, 2 x Softube controllers, NI keyboard, Roland drum tr-8s, Korg minilogue. No video.

However if you're reading through this and are concerned about USB freezes and the pure instability maybe Hackintosh may not be the best route for you at the moment. In saying that my last hack apart from a few human errors,
I had no issues.

Mine is running great at the moment - haven't had a freeze since I unplugged one of my USB hubs... Anecdotal, but points to slightly dodgy USB devices being the problem, rather than a specific macOS problem. Maybe Windows USB error handling is more robust than macOS (due to it having to deal with a wider variety of controllers, perhaps), so the problem isn't noticeable in Windows.
 
Until we could find the culprit for those suffering USB freezes, I’m right with you @ziggenpuss.

In a few weeks, we will see in which side I belong: freezing USB guys or... stable rig...

@kellymac12 , I don’t have the machine now, just waiting to build it once everything is received.

I have an USB2 hub on my actual DAW (Dell mini-tower Hackintosh) so I will test it through it’s pace on my new Designare build in a few weeks.

@c0c0p0ps , even with correct USB ports naming and al, instabilities could happen: on my « Office » Hackintosh, the two front USB2 ports were always flaky, correct port naming or not (even in the Yosemite days). If I plug something in one of the ports and then plug another device in the second one, the first device disconnect!

Maybe not enough USB power on the MB header to handle correctly two devices simultaneously? Never had freeze however and once this little limitation known, I could live with it.

But thanks to remind us how important is USB port assignment. Fortunately, with the aml files in the first post, it’s hard to go wrong... In my case, I think I will do as usual and replace it with a custom USBMap kext, we will see.

Really frustrated.
My sleep is really not stable, my hack wakes up after 1 hour.

When running logs i'm getting this message:

AppleACPIPlatformPower Wake reason: RTC XDCI CNVW USBW (User)

I removed the WiFi module from the board, WiFi is disabled on BIOS.
What can cause this?
any help appreciated..

@CaseySJ So tried to BOOT using my M2P slotted NVMe Main Clone- Same result as SSD. about 10 mins of idle with no input and computer reboots back to clover menu. Also tried, X.M.P- Disabled which dropped ram from 3200mhz to 2133mhz Still gave me the same result as prior, 10 mins idle, reboot...

Also try removing the following temporarily:
  • CLOVER/kexts/Other/USBWakeFixup.kext
  • CLOVER/ACPI/patched/USBW.aml

___Glad to hear it___ I’ll be out of my studio until next week but will be rooting from the sidelines. Last night before I packed it in I decided to see if I could make the machine freeze by furiously plugging my hootoo powered usb3 hub into different ports and a jiggling a charging cable that was plugged into it and lo and behold- A freeze! I originally bought the hub for my 5,1 (now in ups transit to its new home) because of insufficient buss power on a usb3 pci card I installed. The long and short of this is I very occasionally had usb dropouts across that system and thought nothing of it because I was too busy working and my audio chain was on FW. Its interesting to mention that the dropout effected USB devices across plugged into internal ports as well. So, this hub could be the source of my new hackintosh’s problems. Also, last night, I checked the console log and there was no mention of anything that I could find at the time of induced freeze. I should add that during stability all my USB devices (no drives) were plugged into the USB 2 ports. If Kelly’s system remains unfrozen we know the fix is probably removing a bad hub (was that a usb3 hub Kelly?) or using a card. But as Kelly pointed out the card revealed the hub issue. There is nothing conclusive yet but the tree were barking up looks good. And, I too have been using PACe protected software (legally) across a lot of time and systems without issue. Please keep us posted kellymac.
