[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi all,

In the spirit of chasing down possibilities a couple of days ago I turned off two BIOS settings that I'd forgotten that I'd fiddled with - CPU Upgrade (now set to Default) and Enhanced Multi-Core Performance (Disabled). So far, subjectively, my system is more stable. Would you guys mind telling me what settings you're running (if you're on a Z390)? Possible I've got a dodgy 9900K, rather than a dodgy motherboard...

Worth noting I've had these settings all along, even when I was getting freezing several times a day.
 
Thanks for taking the time to run the test. Just ran the same test with the same setting. I am on 32GB, iMac19,1, iGPU headless (0x3E980003), DR16.2.3.

21 seconds. That is roughly 60% (or 40% increase in speed) of using dGPU. The only difference would be my Radeon VII vs your Vega 64, but as I said, the majority of encoding work in our case is carried out by the CPU (QuickSync vs intel cores). I'd be interested in seeing how T2 chip in new MBP or iMac might fare in this test.

For those who use FCPX, the export was 22 seconds with the same setting.

So the moral of the story: If you can, enable iGPU headless mode and use iMac19,1 to maximize your export. QuickSync DOES make a big difference in encoding performance in DR and FCPX.
I stand corrected then! Did you get headless mode working on OC or Clover? I'd try iMac19,1 on my machine if there's an easy way

UPDATE: Wait no I tested it just now: on iMac19,1 with iGPU enabled and headless mode, I get 38 seconds, tested it twice. Reran with iMacPro1,1 w/o iGPU and I get 34 seconds. This is strange....

Have you tested HEVC encoding?
Using clip from the the link you posted, my results are as follows in AME. Note that I have used RX 580.

I use opencore 0.5.9. It is not as hard as it seems on the guide. The key to stability is proper USB mapping and SSDTs. My system actually has been more stable than my 2016 MBP. But, if you already have a working Clover configuration, it will be a hassle to switch over.

CPU Upgrade - Default
Enhanced Multi-Core - Enabled (although, up until just recently, it was set to disabled)
XMP - Disabled

I used to have XMP and CPU Upgrade enabled, but...opted to disable them to try to see if they caused the issue. I think the system does indeed feel more stable with them disabled/defaulted, but...hard to tell. I still haven't seen any issues for over a week now.

Either way, I don't think you have a dodge 9900k. I saw the exact same behavior before I upgraded to a 9900K processor. If anything, I would suspect a board problem over a processor problem, but... I'm still not convinced it's a 'bad board'. I've seen the same issue across multiple processors and motherboards now.

I will do a quick test when I get home with HEVC. The issue with Adobe is that with the release of 14.2, Premiere’s encoding in Windows 10 has dramatically improved (3-4x). But, the Mac version hasn’t caught up yet and I see only about 10% improvement. I am hoping Adobe will fix this soon. Will update the result with HEVC soon.

same problem with the firmeware from the red box functonirt also not under osx only the fobs firme would but no functional under windows hase nor someone an original firm would be for the designer 390 please for help
