Yes, when you mess with the PowerPlay Tables, Vegas can consume a lot of power.

I played A little bit with VGTab and I am quiet happy with temperature and noise settings now, and I managed to achieve 11:30 minutes with the same video rendering in Davince which would be roughly 10% faster, but somehow it doesn‘t show power consumption when I have the vega56.kext loaded. Both on OC and clover. As soon as I remove it, I can see the power consumption of my Vega 56. (by the way, when I am booting with OC it’s around 425 Watt at full load, And with clover it’s around 530 Watt, therefore I am using OC)

edit: I now figured out why there is a discrepancy of 100 Watt difference. The OC loader had the latest version of the radoenboost.kext implemented (1.6.) where the vega56 isnt supported anymore, and the clover loader had version 1.0 where vega still was supported. I figured out that using radeonboost.kext uses around 100 Watt more power on my machine (see below: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...ld-w-i9-9900k-amd-vega-56.239969/post-2140907)

Is this normal or can I fix this somehow?

I don't recall ever being able to see power consumption through system sensors.

Here are the only things I see from my Vega:

To see system power consumption, I use a power meter like the following:

Try deleting the VGTab.kext . Works on my system.

By the way, I figured out why the radeonboost.kext has no effect when I boot with your OC bootloader, but does have an effect when I load it with your Clover folder. In Clover you used verson 1.0 of the radeonboost.kext where Vega56 was still supported, in OC you used version 1.6 of the radeonboost.kext where Chris has already disabled the Vega 56 and 64 cards.

Ok, now I took the last version of radeonboost.kext (1.6) and enabled the Vega56/64 cards again and tested it on the OC boot (without the Vega56.kext). I noticed an increased power consumption of around 100 Watt on full load, so I decided to disable and remove the radeonboost.kext in my OC bootlader. Also, my Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 56 is quiet and stays around 72°C on full load without the Vega56.kext so I removed it as well. A nice geekbench score and 10% increase in speed is not worth the additional noise and power consumption in my opinion.

Increased power consumption with the radeonboost.kext of around 100 Watt:

Ah. Yes. I forgot he removed Vega support in version 1.6 due to the fans going crazy.

I have customized PowerPlay Table and the card still stays quiet because I have a PowerColor Vega 56 Red Dragon which has a huge heatsink and 3 fans. With my PowerPlay Table settings, the system can reach an insane 450W but the performance gains are also huge.

Would you like to share your kext?

edit: my fans didn't go crazy - ever.
