AMD Radeon Navi GPU

I've installed the profile to be able to update to 10.15.6, I won't though yet, until I test 10.15.5.

What do you mean by they are worlds apart ?
AMD continues to work on the chipset. They made radical changes from 10.15.4 to 10.15.5. 10.15.6 continues that trend. I would not compare GPU performance unless you’re on the same build. The driver is maturing far too fast.

Simple tricks I discovered to limit my machine to 3-6 crashes a day is to disable hardware acceleration in Chrome and Slack (Chromium), plus I try to have all my meetings (Hangouts) in Safari, seems to handle better the GPU.

Also the notifications are always turned off, say I work on the left monitor in my IDE, and I would get a notification on the RIGHT (primary) monitor which hadn't been used or it has static content on it, 3 out of 4 times I would get a freeze.

I'm bitting the bullet and trying 10.15.5 now, hoping to get those recovering moments instead of KPs

I was wondering if disabling hardware acceleration in my browser, Brave (chromium), might reduce the crashes.

You mean there's AMD devs working on the Apple drivers for the new NAVI GPU's ? However, that's good, I was really dreading the thought of buying a 580 until these issues were resolved.

Fingers crossed, 1.5hr of usage, 7 hours of standby so far, KP free.

It's extremely volatile right now it seems. I'm seeing lots of redraw and caching issues rn. Safari and Music.app both are the worst offenders. Already looking forward to the next beta

So I think I came across one problem. Does anyone running a Navi chip have anything other than the 5K resolution for their display? Clearly mine is not and it actually doesn't matter what display EDID I use, it's always 5K.

Even printing a screenshot shows it at 5K. What's going on here exactly?

Why the working resolution is 8K ? the native resolution od my screen is 4K ...
How to do to have the SAME Working Resolution AND UI ?
Very strange

i have the 8K working resolution too. I think is very similar to super sampling that is used in gaming. Render at a higher resolution and then downscale for a better picture.

Yes It is like superSampling
For me it's extra workload that I don't need.
Is-it possible, that for 4K resolution or more monitor, MacOS always do a SuperSampling ?

I don't know but it shouldn't return anything other than the correct resolution for your display. macOS does not have "super sampling". So something is wrong there. But at least I'm seeing something other than 5K (which is the only thing I've seen before).

We gotta do investigating

What resolution is a fullscreen screenshot? (CMD + SHIFT + 3)
