[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Random question: Is anyone using dual thunderbolt displays daisy chained off the Thunderbolt3 to Thunderbolt2 adapter? I have this setup for my MBP, wondering if the same works after the Flash of the Thunderbolt chip... I ask because there is only 1 DisplayPort in on this MB.
Thanks.
@snoby It's impossible to use a Apple Thunderbolt Display with this build. Casey and others have done extensive research and its not possible. I believe they also spoke with Gigabyte engineers.

@CaseySJ how can Mojave boot if we remove all the kexts. I removed them and booted with the USB drive and it hangs at around 1/32nd of the progress bar. Any recommendations? Should I boot, from the USB, remove them, and update all at the same time? Thanks.
So update, @CaseySJ I can boot with those kexts removed if I boot from the SSD EFI, but booting from the USB EFI hangs. I guess I messed up a step on the USB? I guess I'll remake the USB and try again.

If you follow the guide step by step, you delete the kexts from L/E and the new USB boot drive you create. In step 14 you copy new kexts. I am guessing you missed out step 14. You must follow the guide, step by step, don't leave any part out unless it tells you to.

@Ploddles I didn’t skip any steps that I know of, and I did step 14. But I found out that it’s definitely something with my USB, so I’m going to redo all the steps and try again.

@mbapple Quite a few people are now using Apple Thunderbolt Displays. See the Apple Thunderbolt Display Spoiler in the 1st post of this thread.

Oh wow, thanks for informing me of this! I figured the situation was the same as when I last checked. ~July 2019, but I guess that’s been almost a year now haha.

Things move along nicely, you'll have to keep up to date more often. :)

@CaseySJ. Just got another Titan Ridge and flashed and both appear to work together. Pretty sweet! But the ports on the second one appear to be duplicated. Seems like it's cosmetic but not sure what i'm doing wrong. I changed the bus on the second one to 0x01 and updated the first byte on ThunderboltConfig. In IOREG, both have Port 7 enabled. Am I missing something? If I leave the bus at 0 with your SSDT it appears normal.

Two points:
  1. Does each controller have a different UID? This is explained in the Thunderbolt DROM Micro-Guide. We must change bytes 2-9 and compute a new CRC8 checksum.
  2. In the SSDT we can give each Receptacle a different number. This is done by modifying the DSB2.XHC3.RHUB section. You will find UsbCPortNumber in the DSM method for each port. Two of them are already labeled 01 and 02. We'll need to change the other two to 03 and 04. These USB C numbers are also specified in the last 4 bytes of ThunderboltConfig. The first controller's last 4 bytes will be 0100 0200. For the second controller we'll need to change that to 0300 0400.
Item 2 changes have been made in the attached SSDT.

We're not completely deleting the kexts. We're moving them to CLOVER/kexts/Other, where the word "moving" means (a) deleting them from /Library/Extensions and (c) copying them to CLOVER/kexts/Other such that there is only one copy. We must rebuild kernel cache after deleting them from (a).

@snoby @mbapple

After flashing Thunderbolt firmware we can in fact connect an Apple Thunderbolt Display, but a second standard monitor may need to be connected directly to a DP port. Trying to daisy chain two of them is really pushing one's luck.
