[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ

Hi CaseySJ, just a question regarding my sleep/wake investigation. the TB3.aml file provided by you contains
HS01-HS02-SS01-SS02
Does this in any way conflict if you disabled hs01-hs02 with the usbmapping? Have started to debug sleepwakeissues, as well as a major KP that occured today when using logic pro 10.5.

Here is a screen from Hackintool

And in the USBMAP.kext i have enabled following slots:

And when searching for XHCI in ioreg i get those entries:

My question is, does it look correct? Is it ok to have hs01 and hs02 for my titan ridge, even if they are "disabled ports" ?

Note that this last text doesn't really fit this thread since i have an asus board, so feel free to ignore it if you don't have time =)

Also after my major crash, both my bluetooth stopped working until a fresh reboot, as well as my GPU went bananas and gave me 30fps in displaysettings, also until i rebooted again. I don't use WEG since i'm on MacPro7,1 but maybe i should. I know my board isn't the most perfect wake/sleep-board, but i don't really have the cashflow to upgrade it yet.

Hey guys since i upgraded to the 5700XT i had this feeling its not performing as well as it should and seing the latest about 10.15.5 and the Metal scores ,it seems i was right , i have the Gigabyte Aorus 5700XT and i am getting no were near 75k !? 42282 is my score .... CaseySJ my good Man can you please clarify , with the new Catalina clean install guides (10.15.4) do Final Cut users still have to apply framebuffer patch with hackintool for the headless option ? or is it already applied in the config-AMD-GPU.plist provided ? also is there a 5700XT aml? SSDT ? what do you think might be causing this for me ?

Fortunately HS01 and HS02 under XHC3 do not conflict with any disabled or even similarly named ports under other controllers. Each US controller -- and there seem to be four of them in your IOReg screenshot -- is independent and free to use any port name. The limit of 15 ports actually applies to each controller. So theoretically if the 4 USB controllers in your system happened to each have 15 ports, then you would be allowed an insane total of 60 USB ports!

It looks fine. HS01 and HS02 are disabled on the XHCI controller, but they can be enabled on the XHC3 controller.

Feel free to create a new thread for other X299 issues and add my username in any post if you'd like me to respond.

Hello @Nikos87
  • The frame buffer patch is only for iGPU and it's already applied to config-AMD-GPU.plist. It puts the iGPU into headless mode in which it won't drive a display monitor (hence less power consumption), but its compute engines will be used (QuickSync).
  • Your RX 5700 XT's GeekBench 5 score is pretty good. Mine is "only" 38,839. Those astronomically high benchmark numbers you're seeing are not really having a material impact on real world tasks. But if you'd like to boost the benchmarked speed of your Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, have a look at this post.

Thank you very much Casey !

@CaseySJ Call me impatient.:beachball: Despite desperate searches, have been unable to locate any i9-10900Ks.
I have purchased an i9-10700.
Would any changes be necessary? Do I just replace the i9-10400?

Thank you very much Casey !
This is quite funny, who from all the video editors out there would want to see good geek bench scores and lower their productivity that the GPU can deliver?

With a simple 5700XT I can have 8K R3D playing real time, 4k h264 in Davinci and Premiere. I'm quite happy with that.

Bear in mind my current GB score is 52000 and if I add the card in the egpu via TB I get 73000 so how does that make any sense? Forget about Geekbench, they are useless. What's relevant is the real world performance.

Mr. Impatient,

The i9-10700 will be plug-and-play compatible.

Hi All,
After a couple days using my new system, mostly organizing my data while a LOT of drives hooked up, it stops recognizing my keyboard and mouse and plugging them back in and switching does not help. A lot of my USB drives go offline as well. I’ve tried using decent powered usb hubs and different ports and still have the issue. The system is still running fine when this happens but I don't have any input. This isn’t happening in windows. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
