[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Just made a clean full backup of Z490 Vision D using the beta version of CCC. Works nicely. This is being posted by booting off the backup...

So, I also just did a full clone using the CCC beta, and it worked.

There are some disquieting remarks on other sites, particularly Macrumors. Some has posted issues with PCI express drives (which most of us who use NVMe drives may know that's what macOS sees our drives as) and 10.15.5, and I'm beginning to believe that the core issue/bug may be there as opposed to just with backup software. Of course, it's just too early to tell where or how extensive this bug is......

I would expect a supplemental update to 10.15.5 soon....

EDIT: I mean really, has either Apple or Microsoft heard of the time honored process of locking Gold Code betas? Because the last beta of 10.15.5 did not have this issue (I'm an Apple beta tester and I have developer status so I know for a fact that this issue is only related to the released version of 10.15.5)

Is there a Motherboard that will work with this recipe, but will fit in a Fractal Micro-ATX Case, Design C Mini? I just need enough PCI slots for an AVID HDX Card, UAD Quad Card, and an RX580 GPU.
on Z390 Designare ATX you can if you install your components like this,
but i don't know if you can install a Fenvi BT WiFi PCIE1 card somewhere else than PCIEX1 slots

The AVID HDX card is a 4x card, so take that into account when selecting a mobo. You'd need 16x, 4x, and 1x slots for the cards you want to add.

Please remember to do this (a) carefully, (b) slowly. Follow the Supplemental Procedure to read/write the Winbond flash chip. And ask for help any time you need it.

There are tiny resistors very close to the Winbond chip. If you're not careful, those resistors can come off the board. If that happens, Thunderbolt will not work.

Remember that this procedure carries risk of physical damage. You must assume all liability and responsibility for anything that goes wrong.

Also note that all relevant articles are linked here (see Post #1):

your recommended this low-cost clip is actually soled out, there's another clip that i can buy now?

Confounded COVID Consequences, also known as CCC.

@CaseySJ @jb007

so, i followed this guide:

and i have the same flasher, mounted the clip to the blue chip and this is the terminal output:

flashrom -p ch341a_spi
flashrom v1.2 on Darwin 19.2.0 (x86_64)
Calibrating delay loop... OK.

libusb: info [darwin_claim_interface] no interface found; setting configuration: 1
Found Winbond flash chip "W25Q80.V" (1024 kB, SPI) on ch341a_spi.
No operations were specified.

flashrom -p ch341a_spi -r OriginalFirmware-BlueChip.bin
flashrom v1.2 on Darwin 19.2.0 (x86_64)

Calibrating delay loop... OK.

Couldn't open device 1a86:5512.

Error: Programmer initialization failed.
This sometimes happens, but it goes away if you repeat the command.

My second system is almost identical to the first one (10980XE) that runs great.
The only difference being: the CPU on system 2 7980Xe and system 1 has 10980XE. Also in system 1 the 5700xt is the 50-anniversary edition and System 2 has the 5700XT Sapphire with the 3 fans.

I've used for the 7980XE the same OC built from system 1, I only changed the system sn id and TB ID.

This machine is lagging after the boot massively then it settles and working a bit better. When performing certain tasks I have random freezes ie when moving the window of a finder around or trough watching youtube clips. Same after the screensaver when prompting the password has massive lags, then it goes back to normal.

I've attached the EFI. I wonder if the 7980xe needs an id for the CPU like KPG set in his guide or maybe I missed doing something.

System 2 Specs:
CPU: i9 7980XE MB:
WS-X299-SAGE (base, not 10G)
GPU: 5700XT Sapphire Nitro
RAM: Corsair CMW128GX4M8C3200C16 RGB Pro 128GB (8 x 16GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16 XMP
TB: GC-TITAN RIDGE (flashed fm50, working good)
NVME: 2X 500GB Evo 970 (1x for win 10, 1X for mac)
Blackmagic Mini 4k (HD &SDI)
6x 4TB HGTS (20Tb Raid)
OWC Express 4M2 Thunderbolt 3 (4X 2TB EVO 970)
Solarflare SFN5122F Dual-Port 10GbE SFP+

This machine is a video editing rig so I need it optimised to work properly.

If anyone knows anything that I could try to fix that would be great!

Thanks,

But that Motherboard wont fit in the mATX case, or will it?

I wasn't referring to any specific motherboard, the example that was shown had 1x slots highlighted so wanted to correct that. Most mATX motherboards only have 3 slots and one ends up being covered by the gfx card.
