The 4K Dell OptiMac - 9020 MT - Core i7-4790 - Radeon RX 570 - LG 4K IPS Monitor

Noob question, trs. Why does Mojave need kexts in L/E when Catalina for the Optiplex and HS for the 8300 Elite doesn't? I take it you can't install Mojave on the Pptiplex using the newer kexts (VirtualSMC, etc). in the ...Clover/kexts/other/ folder? Is there a specific reason it doesn't work?

You can do all those things it's just that we weren't doing those when this guide was written and posted a year ago. Unibeast and Multibeast were then installing kexts to /L/E so that's why they're there in Mojave.

Yes, best to get the HD4600 which is fully supported. Read the Dell Optiplex 9020 thread in Golden Builds for more advice and background info.
I have an Optiplex Dell Optiplex 9020 Ultra Small Form Factor Business Desktop Computer, Intel Quad-Core i5-4570S.
I followed the Catalina guide and, at this writing, I still have a problem with waking from sleep (reboots) or it won't wake from sleep and I have to force a restart. Is that problem we have to live with? Other than that and IMessage not working (which is really a separate issue), all good and thanks very much for the guide.

Lastly, is there wifi card that can fit the slot inside and work with proper aerial cables?

Remember to press F2 and F4 keys at the Clover boot menu.

I cannot get gen_debug to work.

gen_debug

zsh: command not found: gen_debug

It seems to install.

cp: /usr/bin/gen_debug: Read-only file system

chmod: /usr/bin/gen_debug: No such file or directory

Tool installed successfully.

Would you like to generate a report now?[y/n]:

But I get
/Users/ME/Downloads/install_tools.sh: line 54: gen_debug: command not found

I hate to waste your time on this. Isn't there some anecdotal success or failure?

@FranzWerfel you could try a couple of things. Test out iMac 14,3 system definition. Try enabling CSM. Nicksoph has posted an alternate guide for those only using HD4600 graphics. You can read that in this thread:

Thanks. Still can't get gen_debug to work. Tried this:

% sudo curl -o /usr/bin/gen_debug https://raw.githubusercontent.com/black-dragon74/OSX-Debug/master/gen_debug.sh && sudo chmod a+x /usr/bin/gen_debug

That's because the OS is read only in Catalina. You need to disable SIP first before it will work.
See the video on making a Unibeast drive for the directions. Starts at the 1:15 timestamp of the video.
The only difference is that you boot into recovery from the Clover Boot menu screen. If that doesn't work
it's likely the black.dragon74 needs to update the script to work with Catalina.

That makes perfect sense. I made one BIOS change from the Nicksoph's alternate guide:

Power Management
Deep Sleep Control
(.) Disabled

I left the Optiplex on overnight. The screensaver came on; then it went to sleep; and then this morning, I just moved the mouse a bit and it woke up. There was no black screen and it didn't reboot. I should have mentioned that the cabling needs to be less jerry rigged. I have a Display adapter to HDMI to HDMI cable to HDMI-DVI adapter on the back of an AOC monitor that doesn't have HDMI.

Thanks to you and Nicksoph.

Hi Trs, still waiting for my optiplex to arrive. So can I install Mojave in the same way as your catalina mini guide, installing the kexts in the clover other folder? Would I still follow steps 1 to 3 in post 1 this and then follow the mini guide to install the kexts and drivers. i assume this would make future upgrade to catalina easier?

Also whats the idea behind the terminal commands in step 3? why do we need to disable hibernation?

Thanks in advance
