[ROUGH GUIDE] Fix for Finder Preview not working on Mojave 10.14.1+

Status

About what Ben2z said, that small app to make previews does not work at all as I expected. Again I'm having NO thumbnail preview of any kinds of files on mojave other than .jpeg, that I fixed with NoVAPjpeg.kext. Any tips would be appreciated!

I fixed the problem by reenabling the iGPU, but the solution with the .plist edit makes the previews much faster!

Do you mean you enable IGPU in the bios, while you're using a GPU ? Like it's set to IGPU but it use a PCI slot GPU...

Well yea it worked with the iGPU enabled, but i chose to do the plist-edit because it just renders the quicklooks faster (guess it must use software-rendering or the PCI-e GTX770) and then disabled the iGPU again. Also i use whatevergreen.

THUMBNAIL PREVIEW ISSUES FOR OTHER FILES THAN JPEG : STAY ON HIGH SIERRA!!! I have to say that I wasn't able to fix the thumbnail previews issue with Mojave, so if anyone who read this and have no thumbnails preview from finder for files such as : .psd, .ai, .pdf, .png, .svg, etc.. stay on High Sierra. There is no way to fix this issue right now.

Hey Big-W,

I've checked one list time to try the smbios delete 'forceofflinepreview' method posted on the thread right here

I haven't pay much attention the first time (deleted what matched my board ID only) but now that I look closely my info.plist from the appleVPA.framework/ doesn't have same info...

check it attached.

My board is Mac-BE088AF8C5EB4FA2 and as you can see there NO BOARD ID THAT MATCH with a 'forceofflinerenderer'. so that look like Board ID I got isn't listed

I've gone over the whole plist here the only board id available.
Mac-27ADBB7B4CEE8E61 (14,2)
Mac-42FD25EABCABB274 (15,1)
Mac-77EB7D7DAF985301 (14,3)
Mac-FA842E06C61E91C5 (??)
Mac-FC02E91DDD3FA6A4 (13,2)

??

In your bios set dvmt pre alloc to 128mb, enable PCIe graphics and onboard graphics.

And

Glad you are making progress

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest you were unable to understand, only that it's just a matter of reading-up on the successes others have had before us. Many people will tell you the NoVPAJpeg kext is not good because it renders JPG files in software rather than hardware, so misses-out on a lot of the available power in the iGPU. This is true but as you found, getting the iGPU working in what they call "headless" mode is sometimes not so straight-forward with sections of a BIOS becoming invisible unless you activate a certain setting or two. What you need to change is basically not there.

Yes, rendering videos in Final Cut might be affected by this workaround because it uses software rendering for some file-types. Once you get the time, read-up on how to activate your iGPU as headless. As @Big-W said in post #66 you need to find the settings to change the memory allocated to the iGPU. They are there, just buried right now.

If you can mount your EFI partition to access the config.plist there should be no reason you have a privileges problems. While it is mounted check it with Disk Util, First Aid etc.

:)

I've Found the Option in my bios, however, it's as you UtterDisbelief have said, not very straightforward. As a maeter of fact, unless you dig enough, you wouldn't even tell it has anything to do with the iGPU.

Anyway, I've set it to 128, but also have the novajpeg that you recommended me working first and, well, It's working as normal. However, I don't know what of both of the fixes is really working now.

Here is the screenshot in the BIOS:

Is that all that I was supposed to do Big-W?

Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, I don't have that option in my Bios (I have the latest possible version) so I'm not able to do what you explained. I turned down using mojave because the previews files isn't working at ALL, so that's impossible work with it.

If you get lucky to have another way to solve this please keep me posted I would really like to be able to use Mojave!!
