[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@nmano, please look through the references pointed out by @NorthAmTransAm. But also look at the Thunderbolt DROM Micro-Guide for GC-Titan Ridge because it tells you which chip to flash (the one with the blue dot).

Hi @CaseySJ @NorthAmTransAm Thanks for your support.
I see your post #15,307 some item out of stock in Amazon.
Can you check this parts support for flashing Titan ridge card?

Is there a Motherboard that works just as well as the z390 Deisgnare? I have one build using that, but I am getting ready to build a second and it is sold out everywhere. I need to have something that has thunderbolt.

Thanks!

I went back to the post that started it all -- the famous Osy86 repo on GitHub. Attached is the most thorough version of SSDT-TbtOnPCH, which has been tailored for the NUC 7.

It requires:
  • Renaming _E20 to XE20
  • Changing RP01:_INI to RP01:XINI
Both of these renames are the same as before. This version is very extensive so it's possible for a new set of issues to pop up. I plan to adapt and test this on my Asus X99 Deluxe II, but thought I would give you a copy before testing it myself... (always a dangerous proposition) :)

@CaseySJ

I installed the Osy86 SSDT, retained the two renames specified, and cold booted without the TB3 disk connected.

Turns out this SSDT was a regression from previous SSDTs.

1) On initial boot - NO TB Bus, NO TB device in System Info - PCI, nothing in RP01 in IORegistryExplorer.
2) Hot Plugged the TB3 drive and no changes in the above.
3) Rebooted with TB3 drive connected.
4) TB3 drive was listed in Finder. NO TB Bus, System Info - PCI showed an NVME controller, but no TB controller.
5) Ejected TB3 drive and again hot plugged. In some previous test SSDTs this populated the TB Bus, but not with this SSDT.

Attached the zipped IORegistryExplorer file from step 4.
Attached the screenshot of System Info-PCI with the NVME controller.

Next??

Because feedback from this community can be helpful to the development of Intel WiFi and BT drivers, I'll describe how to install the Intel Bluetooth driver. But please log all problem reports with the developer on their GitHub site.

I have been using another method that I outline in some detail here and which uses using RehabMan's instructions and driver. Not all has been perfect as I have no sleep, and from time to time I have to boot into windows and then back into macOS to reconnect my Apple Magic Mouse. I realize that most people just want a working solution and as such will opt for the Fenvi card. I don't use Wifi on my computer and ONLY care about Bluetooth for Magic Mouse for navigating in Logic Pro, Pro Tools and LUNA. Curious as to the level of success people have had with this new method especially in light of some claims that I've seen stating that CNVi will likely never be supported by macOS.

hey @CaseySJ so I finally had the time to give this a shot. When I tried to boot after your requested changes it flashed the apple logo and then gave me a circle with a line thru it like it could not be found.

here is my EFI with removed serial number. I did check and I don't have shiki-32

I was able to install my CCC Backup SSD in an external and pull this EFI from it I had just recently done a clone so this should mirror my main drive

without the changes, you mentioned and unlocked MSR I'm still just getting a bunch on ++++ and no boot.

EDIT: I will mention since I have not been able to use macOS I've been booting into Windows10 and haven't seen any issues in normal everyday use and some gaming.
If truly needed I also have an NVMe external I could pull the main drive out and put it into.

I could also attach my BIOS presets for f6 BIOS if it would help
Please try attached config.plist after copying serial number back into SMBIOS. If this still gives ++++++ on boot, a CMOS Reset might be needed. This will also reset BIOS parameters to factory defaults and it may re-lock MSR 0xE2 so both BIOS and MSR will have to be adjusted again.

The new Gigabyte Z490 Vision D is the successor to the Designare Z390. It's due to ship on May 20 and will only work with 10th gen Comet Lake-S processors. I have one on order, but at this time there are no guarantees or promises that it will work.

eBay and MicroCenter might still have some Z390 Designares available...

Hello @nmano,

All of those parts are correct. The Raspberry Pi kit contains quite a few components. Although cheaper kits are available, the choice is yours.

For the GC-Titan Ridge, I believe even the low-cost CH341A USB Programmer will work.

@canyondust: I did 3 patches only, this is enough to activate the Thunderbolt Bus, but osy did much more:

(from begin of start of activated partition, our offset is 0x82000)
[osy & me] 0x35: 2727 => 3737
[osy] 0x43: AD => 6D
[osy] 0x7C: BB (we have AB) => FB
[osy & me] 0x81: A0 => 20
[osy] 0xEB: 02 => 03
[osy] 0x102: 01 => 00
[osy] 0x13A: 00 => 01
[osy] 0xB32: 05 (we have 00) => 03
[osy & me] 0xBA0 (we have 0xBA8): FF FF FF FF => 86 80 D3 15 (we have 86 80 77 15, this is our vendor & device id)

I don't have a hotplug with cold boot. With dgsga/Casy SSDT (+ 2x acpi patches) I have Thunderbolt Bus activated on NOT patched firmware, but no device to DSBx-ports was connected. We have to keep testing...

UPD: Did you flashed my BIOS?
Oh you mean bios F22i, not yet. Need to finish some work first. Thank you for posting it, it will be very convenient to have! :)

@CaseySJ ... Good evening / morning Casey say I currently have an ACER EB321HQU see attachment .. now I would like to purchase 2 monitors (yes then would want all 3 working) to be daisy chained for a trading platform ... I am looking at getting 2 ==> MSI Optix MAG271CQR 27" 2560 x 1440 Resolution 1ms Response 144Hz AMD FreeSync Technology Frameless Design Anti-Flicker Curved Gaming Monitorshttps://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824475026

=== 1. Can I run the 2 new monitors using the DP ports from my RX 580 and then my current ACER use the HDMI

OR ... should I go the route of plugging my RX 580 into my DP IN on the Designare Z390 and using a Thunderbolt adapter to a Thunderbolt HUB ..... What is your recommendation ?? I need the highest speed / refresh on the 2 new monitors

Do you have SSDT-DESIGNARE-Z390-NO-CNVW in CLOVER/ACPI/pathced?
Yes, I have it there.

I tried with and without the SSDT, same behaviour.. Should I physically remove the card?
Edit: Even if I restart it completely 3-4 times it is the same. To get rid of the KPs I have to remove the SSD completely. Maybe this is related to the power cycle and it clears the firmware that Windows uses.

I removed the CNVi card and now the problems are gone. Should I disable it on Windows si I can keep it in MacOS? I use it mainly for BT in MacOS since I have cable connection for Ethernet. In Windows I don't use it at all.
