Does OC have a real advantage over Clover at the moment? or in the near future... Reading the feature updates in Clover Configurator it seems to me that Clover's project is still pretty alive...

I don't think either has any advantage over the other. Both work.

I'm still running High Sierra, because of my 1080TI. I thought I'd give opencore a chance.
however, I noticed it takes a few seconds (10) before the bootloader initializes, is that normal?
when it runs, first line: "Failed to find ACPI SSDT-EC_USBX.aml ...
can you advise?

Make sure the attached file is in /EFI/OC/ACPI/.
