[Guide] El Capitan on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

Status

Anyone successfully gotten your H107N-WiFi HD 530 to work at 2560x1440@60Hz or more? The motherboard specs state for more than 1080p, we can't use the DVI port, but the HDMI ports.

I'm on Mojave and currently, there is no Nvidia driver support, so my Nvidia card is useless for my QHD monitor. :oops:

Mojave is off topic. Post in Mohave Desktop support.

Hello eveybody, sorry for being away....I have a Q

Hi guys, my Hackintosh was tucked away for years because of this problem, however now I have tried to turn it on again, and the problem still persists. The screen randomly goes like this in the video, black and then back to normal. Where and how can I check what is wrong?

Plus I cant load Youtube on Safari, only on Opera. Screenshot attached. Thank you all for helping.

ahh cool!!can you share your Catalina install steps?
1. Moved all 3rd party kext from /Library/Extensions to /EFI/CLOVER/kext/Others.
2. Update kexts, especially WhateverGreen, Lilu, and AppleALC.
3. Reboot to make sure kexts are loaded properly.
4. Update Clover, i.e., the file CLOVERX64.efi.
5. Reboot to make sure new Clover works.
6. Install Catalina: Preferences->Software Update.

Done.

I am trying to migrate to OpenCore with this motherboard. I have not been sucessful. I anyone has this hardware running OpenCore, please share some tips. Thanks

I also attempted to do a totally new installation on a new SSD via OpenCore. I was not successful either. Depending on time, I may try again later.

I got a tip that the problem may be with CFG LOCK.

Check these sites

<https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore...rnel-issues.html#stuck-on-eb-log-exitbs-start>

<https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/misc/msr-lock.html#what-is-cfg-lock>

After checking with VerifyMsrE2.efi I am still stuck. It returned:

This firmware has BORKED MSR 0xE2 register!
Some cores are locked, some are not !!!

Some of you having difficulties getting OpenCore to work for GA-H170N-WIFI on El Capitan (or not), may want to search the site for threads on "GA-H170N-WIFI" and "OpenCore", especially the thread posted by "wstrohm". There are samples shared by others who have been successful, which might help to resolve your problems with getting OC bootloader to work with this motherboard.
