[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Yup, but Chrome is using Widevine L3, software only decoding, no?
Someone suggested removing shikigva from Boot Arguments to see if Netflix will work under Safari. Since I'm not a Netflix subscriber, let's hope fellow subscribers can offer their advice.

But if Netflix works through Chrome, then...

and there is a pretty good chance the board will work fine by simply bridging the space between the missing resisters
I might try soldering my board the quick-and-dirty way

I, too, had the idea, but held it back, because there were rare cases, where it backfired.

If it means anything ... your unfortunate experience back in the day was very helpful for me.

I experimented and broke a looooot of stuff, when I was younger. My uncle always backed me up, shared my curiosity and told me that sometimes (back in THOSE days it was more like "often" for me) you learn the mechanics of devices by breaking them and I could never become a master of repair without ever having broken something  since then I developed an aptitude for all kinds of machines.

Hi CaseySJ and friends. In reference to the OpenCore experimental setup, how should we approach this guide if we are installing fresh from scratch (particularly the part about product number, serial number, etc.)? It seems the guide is moreso tailored for swapping across from Clover. Is most of the guide from Dortania applicable, not mentioning the specific Kexts / SSDTs that can be taken from the Clover guide?

Thanks very much!!
For fresh install we can just run Clover Configurator, open the SMBIOS page, choose an SMBIOS from the pop-up menu on the bottom right, then copy-and-paste the indicated fields from Clover Configurator into ProperTree. Done!

Finished installing Catalina 10.15.4 from the fresh install mini guide last "night." ...
Glad to hear it.
... Everything is working wonderfully although while adjusting settings in the BIOS to match post #1 I ended up having to disable XMP. The first time I set up all the settings as described there, I got a notice that the BIOS had been reset to safe settings. Trial and error led me to just leaving XMP disabled and then all was well. My RAM is:

Corsair CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 Desktop Memory Black
Each time you enable X.M.P. Profile 1 the system fails to boot? Or was it a one-time event? If its repeatable here are some suggestions:
  • Check that the two DIMMs are installed in alternating slots, preferably slot closest to CPU (DDR4_A1) and DDR4_B1.
  • See what happens if only one module is installed.
  • Perform a CMOS Reset with both modules installed (DDR4_A1 and DDR4_B1). Configure BIOS parameters always starting with Load Optimized Defaults.
Once everything was complete I ran some benchmarks. For some frame of reference on what I'm upgrading from, my "video editing rig" up till now has been a 2012 Mac mini with 16GB of RAM and an upgraded SSD. Poor Thing.
Ouch, 2012 Mac mini is rather anemic on those benchmarks. Chart added to Radeon Boost guide.

@CaseySJ
I had a question brother. I have two monitors connected to the same GPU (WX7100).
When I turn off the secondary monitor, the mouse still gets lost when I go to the edge of the screen. Is there a way to make it like connecting my MacBook Pro to a monitor; when I turn off the monitor, it disconnects? (prevents the mouse of moving off the primary monitor)

Just hooked up a second monitor and got the same result. It seems we have to pull the cable to fully disconnect a monitor. If real Macs will disconnect just by powering off the monitor then it should be possible on a Hackintosh as well. Maybe it's a problem with WhateverGreen or maybe we're missing something in either Device Properties or ACPI/SSDT. Will need more investigation.

This interests me because now I wonder if whatever solution you may find will help with my monitor troubles that occur with an active iGPU.

Hi, my case has a socket for the USB 2 port, in addition to the USB 3.1. This port is very useful for my printer and scanner, but I cannot use it because it is used by the wifi card (the Z390 has only one USB 2.0 inner port).

Is there some kind of adapter to divide the USB 2.0 socket? Thank you.

[EDIT] Could this or a similar one work? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XD3WZ77/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

Yes that's the right splitter.
