Many thanks, Feartech and eiriasemrys for the input. I did manage to install and use all the original KPG setup that was originally in place. I only changed in bios AVX: 5 and AVX-512:3 as eiriasemrys suggested. (Bios version 2002)

I've updated the drivers and clover. Now everything seems to work including 5700XT and hot pug for TB.
I am now typing from 10.15.3.

I do have some system freezes when I'm rendering intensely, please find attached the panic reports after the restart.
Any idea how to fix them?

As I understand it, AVX offsets basically suppress the overclock so that during AVX calls the CPU is controlled. When I was setting my AVX I would modify the offset by 1 digit, then reboot and test. You're not going to damage your system and this way you can find the offset that works for your unique hardware.

One way that I could force AVX calls was playing 8K RED at Full Res Premium in DaVinci Resolve and playing iTunes at the same time. I used this to test stability as the other benchmarks and stress tests didn't catch this issue. Not saying your issue IS AVX, but with some trial and error you might find that it is. If you have some 8K red to try, make sure you only debayer with GPU and decode with CPU. Resolve is now capable of using Gpu for Decode AND Debayer, you just want debayer for your test so that it stresses your cpu.

This bad boy looks stable enough for now with the CPU decode in 8k R3D, iTunes.

PS I take that back. I tried the same thing on premiere with 8k footage and it crashed again. Log attached. :)
Test 1 crash: Panic 3pdf is with AVX: 5 and AVX-512: 3
Test 2 crash: Panic 4pdf is with AVX: 6 and AVX-512: 3
Test 3 crash: Panic 5pdf is with AVX: 3 and AVX-512: 2

I'll keep sliding and will report. Does anyone know how to fix controlling the CPU fan?

Looks like overheating to 108 Celsius WH enters in alarm. Picture attached.

Cooler: KRAKEN X63.

Feartech any trick suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi All

Can anyone confirm that they are NOT getting unsynchronized TSC errors during boot like the ones in the picture I've attached?

I am having this issue with a EVGA x299 Micro/i7-9800X. Everything else works, except for the error, and I believe it's affecting the PCIe buss performance.

I need a mATX board, and had a Gigabyte Z390M gaming/i9-9900K and it was suffering the same errors and performance issue, so I decided to try the EVGA x299.

I had the same issue years ago with 10.8 and a MSI motherboard, and I ended up having to get a different Asus board, that has the "lock all cores" option. Before I look into a Asus Prime board, I want to confirm that the unscyncronized TSC issue is resolved with the Asus boards and the x299 CPUs.

BTW the way you do this is by entering clover, and booting in verbose mode, the errors will appear after the the CPU threads go by

Or enter clover and remove npci=0x2000 from the boot arguments, which will cause the boot to stall right after PCI begin, and you'll be able to see if there are any unsynchronized TSC errors.

I am finding that motherboards that don't have a "Lock all cores" option in the bios like ASUS boards are getting these errors. All my builds, 10.13, 10.14 and 10.15 are showing these errors with the gigabyte and EVGA motherboards, and not showing them with the Asus boards.

One post I saw the person saw a 9000 point difference between synced and unsynced cores. But hey if you don't mind that you're losing out of a faster operating system, that's okay too.

Thanks

Oh wow, I don't think that cooler can do it. I use this one and honestly I think it is the bare minimum. I haven't done a custom loop due to restrictions in my chosen case, but that processor demands serious cooling. A 240mm radiator is not enough. 108* C is crazy, you should be aiming for high 30s on idle and maybe 50*c under max load. KGPs guid talks about that processor needing a custom loop.

EDIT: And random shutoffs do occur when CPU overheats, in order to protect from permanent damage.

Thanks @eiriasemrys

I checked and they are correct as per KPG's instructions:

AVX offset is: 2
AVX-512: 3

Sorry yes, I have 2 identical system, the only difference being the processor 7980Xe and the other machine having the 9980XE. I am now working on updating the 7980XE one to Catalina.

do not overclock the cpu, the avx cannot be uploaded at the same frequency as the cpu, look at your cpu if you put it in automatic, what frequencies turns yellow on the bios, write it down on a paper and then put the same frequencies in each using the avx offset.

the ideal is that you configure the bios as kgp, but without overclocking the cpu.

if you let avx or avx 512 at the same frequency as the cpu your pc will freeze

hello friends,
i have a crazy issue
Since 3 weeks i use a Clover boot loader, all works very good.

I tried to boot with an OpenCore EFI for test by curiosity, and I installed it on a USB stick. (I wanted to preserve my EFI Clover on NVMe.)
That did not succeed. So I canceled. But the crazy thing is that each time I restart now (without the USB stick), I have a verbose mode like the OpenCore that I used !!! And, actually, on the Clover at startup when I press space bar, I can read the verbose mode (-v) on arguments. and, yet, when I arrive on the Desktop and check in my EFI, it is not written! My config.plist has not moved. It's crazy. Also, at boot Clover he noted: Clover boot on the macintosh HD in the Macintosh HD. It is as if he had installed an EFI in the Macintosh HD - Data, and that the Clover will start on this one.

So where is this hidden config.plist ??!

I hope you understand what I mean ..? :) Tthank you for your help.

nothing so strange, I think you only need to clean your NVRAM (probably -v argument is still there and it's showing in clover too)

Hi and Thank you for your help
And How you clean the nvram ? if i had to deleted the nvram file on efi partition, i already did.
thanks

EDIT:

great!
i found an NVRAM tab in Clover boot where was written -v which I deleted. thank you for giving me the idea!
