[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I am trying to make sure I am doing all of this right. I have just finished setting up Headless Platform ID - @CaseySJ edited my Config.plist the other day. I just read the spoiler about H264 and HVEC and I get his output from videoproc

I was getting a lot of lag in Final Cut. I do not have anything new to edit to test with. But I did take an old project and delete all the generated Library files and start to mimic my editing workflow (its a crude test, but it's the best I could think of).

Before the config.plist edits, and the headless platform ID - if there was any rendering or transcoding going on in the background of Final Cut, I could not scroll the timeline without lag or spinning beach balls of doom. I only ran my crude test for a few minutes - but I didn't have any lag, dropped frames or spinning balls. How else can I make sure I have done everything necessary to make this build cruze smoothly for video editing.
This is looking good. Hopefully other video editors will offer better suggestions for assessing the setup, but have you run Bruce X and similar benchmarks?

Ok, I will try to run Bruce X and see what I get. Off hand and before I go searching for it, what do people usually get with Bruce X on z390 Designare, 9700k, and RX580 rig.

@CaseySJ I just ran Bruce X and got around 12 seconds. That's a little higher. I also ran Geekbench 5 and it looks like I am in the ballpark with the number posted in your post. I guess I am good?

Have you tried using an outboard antenna such as this?
I may try that in the next few days. Thanks.

Came across this thread and it jumped my Geekbench graphics scores significantly on my 5700xt. Take a look at this this post: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/amd-radeon-navi-gpu.264399/post-2103382

Here are my benchmarks before and after installing the supplied SSDT and removing WhateverGreen.kext. iGPU is disabled as well:

Hello MY fellow colleagues. Ladies and Gents of course,

I have some time lately with COVID-19 and have put together what I hope will be a robust FCPX and Davinci resolve studio.
I have previously installed a fully working system about 2 years ago : Z370 gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 Mb, with i7 8700k,
32 gb of Crucial Ballistic Sport: 2x16gb @ 2166Mhz and a Sapphire rx580 8 gig Nitro.

I am venturing now with my Gigabyte Z390 Designare with i7-8086K delidded processor, 32GB of the same RAM- Crucial 32GB. I'm using the Sapphire Radeon VII for graphics and video editing/effects.

I'm able to boot into macOS using my old SSD. BUT of course it wants to update to Catalina.
I read a few posts here, many from @pastrychef, @CaseySJ, @MACAK and a few other Mac geniuses.
My understanding is save the older necessary kexts from older Gaming 7 Aorus system and add newer kexts to make the Designare run optimally.

Does someone have any additional tips and points to get me going. I've been reading some of this long winded thread and the other is : Radeon Vega VII.

I don't expect any EFI files unless this is gladly shared by modders who think their builds are pretty reliable. Otherwise I'd definitely appreciate links to everything I need to get started.

Better yet, I'm sure quite a few have went through my transition of Gaming 7 to Z390 Designare. It boots just fine and I don't want to update if it puts me in a corner. This is why I'm sure I have to add some new kexts with Clover~Plist before I update. The whole system works perfectly with Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, BTW.

I'm assuming I'll need a new system definition, TB kexts, different Audio, kekts for Vega VII; or is this OTB as well as my old RX 580 gig?

Thanks in advance, Gentlemen.

Feel free to post a screenshot of the error. Just need to copy-and-paste the HS14 block into the same relative location after HS12.

Attached are the screenshots. Thanks!

I don't have a 5700 XT - I have the RX 580 8GB - a Sapphire Pulse model - I read through that thread. I wasn't exactly sure what to do to correctly use what they were talking about.

There is an SSDT in there for the 580s, 5700 XTs, and the Vegas. Essentially what they are saying to do is to install the SSDT, disable the iGPU, and remove WhateverGreen (though some people are leaving WhateverGreen in and enabling the iGPU as well on SMBIOS 19,1). The speed difference is remarkable for my video card, and my Final Cut runs pretty well too!
