pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Judging by the following, it looks like it's either HFS+ or video card related.

Check the health of your HFS+ drives and your Vega. There's nothing in my EFI folders that do anything with HFS+ beyond the boot detection and the only thing that affects the Vega is WhateverGreen.

Thanks! Just checked all drives with disk utility - first aid and found no issues. Also tested on a MBP with the same transfer & drives and it was completed fine.

Any ideas on how to check my vega?

I'd try to run some stuff to stress the Vega a bit. Try to put on a heavy, sustained load on the GPU for an hour or two and see if any problems arise.

Running Heaven benchmark now, let's see if that throws any errors.

Could it be USB ports related? this freeze/crash is consistent and repeatable with the external SSD (Sandisk extreme 2TB) tried with different cables and it's always within minutes of looking in the folders or copying files.

Not had any issues like this from the previous build and only after updating to Catalina.

The 5500 XT should work just by adding the "agdpmod=pikera" boot argument.

Thanks for your reply Pastrychef. It was one of the first thing I tried, but unsuccessfully; I should perhaps go with a fresh OpenCore config.
I'll post here if this succeed. See you and thanks again, Alan

@pastrychef hope you are well and safe!

I have a question, i am trying to make a clean install on my system, is your EFI still valid for 8700k? (with HD630 only)

Also, do you recommend Opencore over Clover?

Thanks again.

What exactly happens when you boot up? Do you get to the Clover boot menu? Does macOS start loading? Where does it stop? Please post a picture of the verbose screen where it stops.

Sure. It shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you.

I am trying to get it to boot to install screen. It loads a pink Apple logo or with squares and then it goes black. If I remove cable and connect again, I got the image for a few seconds, and then it's gone. Any idea what could be?

Try another HDMI cable.

Try another HDMI cable.

I already tried with HDMI and DisplayPort. Here is how it looks after install.

The pink with HDMI, and the other with DisplayPort.
