[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I have a question about the new mini guide for 15.4 in older version in post instal we needed to install RC files with clover instaler and in this one we do not? or did i miss something , thank yyou
Correct. In the new one we do not install RC scripts because now we use native NVRAM. If RC scripts are already installed, it's best to delete them. The procedure for this is listed in the Native NVRAM guide (click here).

Hello CaseySJ, i want to install WIN10 with USB Boot Stick and a 1TB SSD. Could you please help me and tell me a way to get this done. Firstly i tried Bootcamp but it can't connect to WIN Server. Than i created a USB-Boot Stick for WIN 10 and formated the SSD (NTFS with GPT).

Now i tried to boot from the USB Stick, the Install screen from WIN10 pops up and it seems to run, but after a while i get an error but no description of the error just "a protocoll was saved in setup". I read a bit on tonymac and it seems it is something with the EFI, but im not an expert with this stuff, so i thought i try to ask you? I hope you have a workaround for me? THX for your help.

Another question what is the fastest way to update OSX on this Hackie. Update Clover and than i'm ready??

Hi all, just wanted to pop in and say I've successfully moved from OC 0.5.4 to 0.5.7 and updated to 10.15.4. Lots of changes in the OC config.plist for this, including a bunch of name changes (fwruntimeservices > openruntime et cetera). Left most of my old settings intact, but made a few changes suggested by the OC sanity checker. Everything seems to work fine. Had one KP related to IntelMausiEthernet but hasn't happened again.

Also: Stunning work on Thunderbolt @CaseySJ, @Elias64Fr and everyone else who helped out. Been reading now and then to keep updated and it's some truly impressive stuff!

Let's focus on Windows first. The best way to install Windows is to download and run Microsoft's Media Creation Tool. You will either need (a) a Windows PC or (b) Windows running in a virtual machine on macOS such as VMWare Fusion.

Then remove all macOS drives (yes, remove the macOS NVMe SSD as well).

Now follow the suggestions in this spoiler in Post #:

Ive been getting random freezing on memory intensive tasks. Upgraded to Catalina 10.15.3 and all went well, but bow i get freezing. Been running memtests all day, only got errors when running dual channel, isolated one bad stick. Ran again two times, no errors, still freezes. Lowered the clock to 2666, still freezes. Would trying get native nvram working help? Bios is setup as per the guide, tried both xmp and manual settings. Tried a different mobo for tests, no errors.

Gskill trident 16GB 3600 x4.
Just to confirm: are you on 10.15.3 or 10.15.4?

If you're on 10.15.3:
  • Please have a look at the troubleshooting section at the bottom of the Catalina Mini-Guide (this one).
  • Also note that MSI RX 5700 XT's have caused various issues. As a last resort, try removing that card and switching iGPU to platform ID 0x3E9B0007.
    • This is explained in Post #1.

After the pen drive installation when i try to boot from catalina macOS it stucks on this... i installed it inside a normal drive formatted to apfs.. what can be the problem?

Hi @CaseySJ, thank you for the welcoming reply and for helping me debug! :)

I had thought that both displays were using the graphics card. I think you’re right that this wasn’t the case. Looks like the Initial Display Output setting makes a difference for my setup.

Previously, my BIOS settings were Internal Graphics: Enabled and Initial Display Output: PCIe 1 Slot. I’ve now changed the Initial Display Output setting to IGFX. As a result, the iGPU now shows up under System Information > Hardware > Graphics/Displays and I can see both displays connected to the graphics card and iGPU separately.
The info in About This Mac has also updated accordingly. I tested with Plex (with the (GPU) Hardware Acceleration setting enabled) and saw that watching a movie on the main display (SSP1) would use the IGPU and moving the movie to the secondary display (SSP2) would use the graphics card. I noticed that Fortnite will use the iGPU no matter what (basically unplayable) but I'm not playing much Fortnite these days so that doesn't bother me at all (just something I like to test).
That's much better. Each LG 5K is driven by a different GPU. Your VideoProc screenshot shows that the Intel UHD 630 is being prioritized over the AMD GPU. When multiple GPUs are present, some apps will choose the one that is alphabetically first. Because "Intel UHD 630..." is alphabetically ahead of "Radeon ..." it means VideoProc and possibly Fortnite will select the Intel chip. We can rename these devices easily. Just go to Clover Configurator --> Devices --> Properties, select the 3rd item in the "Devices" box and on the right side you will see various properties. Change the existing AAPL,model field to something else such as UHD 630. That will bring Radeon... in front of UHD 630. It's also possible to rename the Radeon to something like AMD Radeon...

I still don’t have any graphics output to my display when powering on my machine until the macOS loading bar and user login screen. I worked around that by powering on my computer (using the case button) and then rebooting (using the macOS user login screen button), which somehow gives me display output during the re-boot so I can access and use the BIOS settings. If I flash the original firmware back onto the Winbond chip I can see the Gigabyte boot logo when booting from a powered-off state (as normal). But I'd rather have the configured thunderbolt 3 controller :)
Have you seen (and clicked) on these 2 links from Post #1:

Ideally I’d be able to use the graphics card for both displays. My understanding is that a "Headless" configuration isn’t compatible with dual thunderbolt displays (but I haven't tried it). So maybe I should try a GC Titan Ridge addon-card if I'm limited by the motherboard's single DisplayPort-In connector, but is that card even compatible without a THB_C header on the Designare?
The reason both LG monitors cannot be driven by the AMD GPU is because Designare Z390 has only one DP-In port. The GC-Titan Ridge has two DP-In ports so it can do something even more amazing:
  • To get true 5K resolution on the LG UltraFine 5K, we actually need to send two DisplayPort streams to two DP-In Ports and then connect only one Thunderbolt port to the LG 5K.
  • If we use a single DP-In, we'll get a native frame buffer resolution of 4096x2304.
  • If we use two DP-In connections, we'll get full native frame buffer resolution of 5120x2880.
  • We do not need THB_C header. We just need to tie pins 3 and 5 of the J1 header on GC-Titan Ridge. We can use a single female/female jumper wire such as this one.

After the pen drive installation when i try to boot from catalina macOS it stucks on this... i installed it inside a normal drive formatted to apfs.. what can be the problem?
Which USB port is the flash drive connected to?
  • If it's connected to a black USB port (USB 2), try moving it to a blue/red/yellow port.
  • If it's connected to a blue/red/yellow port, try moving it to a black port.

...
So a few questions then.

Do we have the ability to compare differences in the two SSDTs? if mac pro 7,1 has both tables i will pull them.
This is quite easy because the dsl files (disassembled) are just plain text files! I use DeltaWalker to compare text files. I think the other questions were answered above! :)

Does any one know if changing SMBIOS from iMac 19,1 to lets say 6,1 have an impact on CPU and or GPU performance , because on my previous catalina install i had it set as a Mac Pro and was getting significantly higher lux mark scores by about 500 points at least . Thank you.

EDIT: I forgot I lowered my RAM frequency. lol
