[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

  • Are you using OpenCore or Clover?
  • OcQuirks is only used in Clover in order to specify booter quirks for FwRuntimeServices. In OpenCore, those quirks are specified in the OpenCore config.plist.

I'm using Clover, I just checked again, and in my previous ocquirks.plist the Protectsecureboot=False wasn't there, if I remove it I don't get the error.

Hi again. Sorry for my English. I meant that i'm using a NVME 512 GO SSD (970 PRO Samsung) for main Catalina internal drive.
I would like to know if it is possible to create the Back up of those 512 GO on an external SSD drive which contains up to 1TB ?
Do i have to create a partition size of 512 on it ? Or do i have to buy a dedicated 512 GO drive (those are quite expensive and more expensive than the 1TB one) ?
Or can i use the 1 TB ?

Thank you
The backup drive just needs to be of equal or greater size. If you're using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC), has a great video for how to prepare the disk Watch a video of this tutorial on YouTube and instructions located HERE.

For TimeMachine backups you as large a drive as possible since Time Machine keeps a running history of your data, but once again you would simply partition the drive as normal (max size partition as Mac OS Extended Journaled) and connect it to your machine / select the drive in Time Machine Backup.

Different releases of FwRuntimeServices support different quirks. The version of OcQuirks in the Catalina 10.15.4 zip file is configured for use with the version of FwRuntimeServices that is included in the same zip file.

I did, I did a complete UEFI reset by shorting the pins and rebuilding from scratch. Did this right after updating to F9b. I'm going to try rebuilding my EFI on a brand new clean USB stick and see if this has any effect.

Update: Well this had no effect, still hanging at the Logo... it's really strange
Okay so I made progress with this issue.

I changed "ProvideConsoleGopEnable=True" to "ProvideConsoleGopEnable=False" in the OcQuirks.plist. This worked and allowed me to boot up completely in to Catalina. I believe the reason for this is because unlike most folks I am running with IGPU=Disabled. I had been running like this for a while to avoid running the "OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi" memory fix. With the iGPU disabled I have been running with "AptioMemoryFix.efi".

With the iGPU disabled AND running with OcQuirks.efi it seems you need to disable the injection of the Console side graphics. What this results in is a screen that goes blank After the Clover boot selection until the final Apple Logo / Status bar. So the screen is black until the last second of the Logo/Status bar which is shown and then the Catalina login screen.

Bottom line if anybody else is running with iGPU disabled in the uEFI and they want to move to OcQuirks memory fix, either enable iGPU first, or Disable "ProvideConsoleGopEnable" in the OcQuirks.plist, but be prepared to be patient as your screen will blank after you select the boot partition in Clover until just before the Catalina Login screen is shown.

Can anyone with a successfully patched thunderbolt setup and working SSDT tell me if their second AppleHPMDevice (@1) has UID information? See screenshots.

That's the million dollar question! We're just waiting for someone (like you :)) to test an Antelope audio interface on a flashed Designare Z390. You would be the first person to do this...

Copying @qthegaijin @franzasensi because of their interest in this.

Okay. Hopefully wednesday i will receive my 5250 TEST CLIP, 8 POS, 1.27MM, SOJ/SOIC POMONA. I saw a couple of mini guides here. Which one do i have to follow for a Designare Z390 (onboard thunderbolt).
I'm preparing my raspberry PI3b right now.
Btw. I'm running a Antelope Goliath (on USB right now). And thunderbolt is working on windows.

I'm running 10.14.6 and system info : Thunderbolt: No drivers are loaded.
I'm using my UA satellite on thunderbolt right now(in MacOS). It's works flawlessly.

Regarding flashing guides, please refer again to Post #1, the spoiler Mini-Guides for Flashing SPI ROM Chips. All of those guides should be read, but these two in particular may be most suited to the Designare Z390:
