Hey,

I have been patiently waiting for Mac Pro to launch so that I can build my second hackintosh for video editing with Xeon processor. But it is mid March and I still don't see any concrete build or suggestion that I can feel hopeful. I am still willing to wait but curious if we are going to see a stable, video editing hackintosh with Xeon processor?

Updated:
So, after exploring some threads, I am thinking about the following components for building the video editing hackintosh. Please let me know if you think any other part(s) will be best for performance and stability of the build and more compatible & straight-forward installation for the hackintosh:

Processor: Intel Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE
Cooling: Alphacool Eisbaer LT360 CPU water cooling
RAM: HyperX 64GB KIT 3600MHz DDR4 CL17 Predator
GPU: AMD Radeon VII 16GB OR the one you think will be best
Power: EVGA SuperNova 750W
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB
Case: Need suggestion for best dust proof case

Thank you!!

If there is no hope, I will be open to build the stable & performance video editing hackintosh with i9 or i7, whichever will be best. Any idea or complete build suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

There are threads about x99 builds that gets you closer to a xeon but they require some elbow grease. I have not seen a lot of Xeon action on these forums.

Another option would be to run linux with a bare metal hypervisor running MacOs. Pretty sure there is a video on it floating around the internet.

But if you stick with consumer products go with gigabyte designare z390 with I9 CPU and AMD Radeon VII or 5700 XT, min 64gb memory, and western digital or Samsung NVME drives. Is a well maintained build that has onboard Thunderbolt:

Thanks for your feedback Scottkendall. I am into stable, all functioning Hackintosh; my current one is not good with video editing at all. My Macbook Pro is so slow now, can't even think of video editing on it. So I have been so much looking forward to Mac Pro and thought would be able to make a stable Xeon Hackintosh for video editing with Final Cut Pro. But well it seems I will have to go for i9 and yeah must have lots of memory for sure. I will keep exploring until I find a proven stable build nailed out by some good people here :)

@anannyo,

If you want to build a Xeon based Hackintosh system then you really need to be looking at X299 builds.

There are some really great and detailed builds guides for X299 systems on these forums - just use the search tool.
You should be aware that Xeon based systems are expensive and require a lot more work to get fully working. However if you need the horse power then the X299 platform is the best route to go.

Cheers
Jay

Hey Jay,

Thank you so much for your recommendation. I will surely look at x299 builds and explore and then decide.

Cheers!!

just buy a small air compressor and blow it out ever 3-6 months.

I intend to do so but keep skipping and end up getting my graphics card burned up due to dust. So was thinking if there is any solution to the dust problem :D

Hey guys,

I am still researching other threads to fine tune my hardware choices to make my build rock solid and most compatible. I discovered this thread about case against using Gigabyte motherboard: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/the-case-against-buying-gigabyte-z390-motherboards.293115/

Which motherboard do you guys think will be best for my video editing build and will get all the features like thunderbolt 3 and other compatibilities.

Cheers!!

Your chosen motherboard is fine. I use it myself.

Your choices are very limited if you want Thunderbolt 3 onboard. As far as I know, only 3 motherboards (Two from Gigabyte and one ITX from ASRock) include Thunderbolt 3.
