Hi All (and @MacMan )

I've never been able to get the onboard Audio working on my MB in catalina. IT outputs fine via Displayport to the monitor but it doesn't even recognise speakers that are connected via the 3.5mm port.

Has anyone else had these issues? How did you resolve?

Just a quick question - are you using a USB 2 port for the Install media or a USB 3? I made that mistake earlier on (not using a USB 2 port) which caused a fair bit of premature balding....

Yep, using the USB2 port on the front panel of the case, the keyboard and mouse are connecting to USB3 sockets, as I only have a single USB2 socket.

Seems so.
Question:
Which BIOS version? - I use the latest, greatest.
Are you able to install other os‘s? I.E., any Linux?

Hint:
Try the install in verbose-mode, so you are able to see the last on-screen boot-message.

Hope it helps.
Best from Vienna, Ralph

Edit says:
once had strange boot errors after a transport of my machine. re-installing the CPU fixes all. :)

I'm using the Version of BIOS that was pre-installed on the motherboard, not sure which version it is, I'd assumed as I'm getting crashes in BIOS that that wouldn't be the issue, but could try upgrading it if you think this could be a problem.
I've tried in Verbose, but once you get to the OSX installer it stops displaying boot-messages.
Just tried removing and re-inserting the CPU, but same problems persist.

Crashing in BIOS is not good.
run memtest86, errors there mean either these or maybe more.

memory is bad
cpu bad (rare) overheated ( see temps in bios )
memory controller bad, motherboard problem.

I've run into bad memory before, overheating, overclocking too much, bending pins on cpu installation. If memory it can usually be figured out by testing each stick, but RMA-ing everything might be simpler depending on your vendor.

I'm trying to create a memtest86 USB at the moment, but having some issues creating it successfully, will keep at it and see if I can find anything useful from it.
CPU temp seems to be fine reading 21C while in BIOS.
Yeh, it might be easier to return parts, though everything came from different suppliers, so will have to see if they'll do an exchange. fingers crossed.

cheers for the advise everyone.

I finally got a successful install of memtest86 onto a usb and ran it. Everything seemed fine with no errors. Does this suggest that the issue is with the motherboard?

Just wanted to double check, in case I'm being an idiot. The BIOS settings in the guide for this motherboard are in addition to the ones on the main Mojave installation guide, right?

Hi, I would like to follow this MacMan's build model to build a mac PC. I am wondering if I changed the montherboard to use ASUS TUF Z390-Plus Gaming (Wi-Fi) instead, will any step or installation mentioned in the build article change? Will I also need to use 2 Ports Hub USB 2.0 to 9 Pin Header Mainboard Panel Bracket or something similar for booting the UniBeast installer? I assume the only difference between TUF Z390-Plus and TUF Z390-Pro is TUF Z390-Plus has Wi-Fi. I am trying to resolve all my questions before I proceed, thank you all for help!.

I would like to see the result. I have the same mainboard, and I'm planning to try next weekend.

@gicuta13, could you let me know your result too. I have not even bought the components yet. Thank you!

I have an ASUS TUF Z390-Plus Gaming (Wi-Fi), i5 9600k crucial memories and a ssd Samsung 970. I didn't manage to installed. The install got freeze at some point. Twice. No mouse movement, no keyboard nothing.

Currently installed using this method for High Sierra.
I tried to update to Catalina through the App Store, and it broke.
Did have a CCC Backup so now currently copying it back over to Main Drive.

Is it possible for me to update to Catalina? How so as I’m using current setup with ASUS TUF Z390-PRO and i7-9700K (RX 580 8GB)

I will soon shop for the components suggested in this MacMan's build. Here are my questions I would like be answered:
  • The Mac OSX installation procedure and patches mentioned here are for Mojave. Should I follow the instructions to install Mojave anyway and then install Catalina afterward?
  • If I install Catalina directly, will all the patches included in this thread still good?
  • I would like to have WiFi and bluetooth for my build. If I add BCM94360CS2 on PCI-e Adaptor mentioned on other successful user build (https://www.newegg.com/p/17Z-00NU-0...cs2-_-9SIAF279U07387-_-Product&quicklink=true), what else do I have to do at post installation for this card?
Thank you so much for help!

1. No need. Download directly Catalina.
2. Yes
3. Nothing, it will work OOB. Just use the first PCIe port.
