AMD Radeon Navi GPU

Any progress?
Yep, putting Lilu + WEG in L/E solved it for me. Breaks when trying to perform an update since it doesn't use L/E (I assume) so I have to only have one monitor plugged in for that.

I'm not an expert in hackintosh, but shouldn't lilu, WEG and any other used kexts be in /EFI/.../Clover/kexts/other/ as described in https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/macos-10-15-3-update.291064/
But nice to know that there are some progress :)
That is where I keep them all - as you mentioned they _should_ be in there. I found another post that mentioned that WEG + Lilu worked in L/E though so gave it a go and it worked. All other kexts are kept in EFI.

lol

Yesterday I was talking with a friend that had suggested to swap my card if him. He had a 5700 XT from Powercolor.

As all 5700XT are already overclocked and uses more power, there's small bedroom to overclocking, he stated. And he would achieve better performance with a 5500 XT overclocked as hell. As he uses it for gamming in Windows it appears that Windows has tools for benchmarking these Radeons to the limit.

Well, his was a reference design. Mine was a two fan design. He was very excited for doing the swap, and so do I. lol

So now I have a Reference RX 5700 XT and a happiest friend.

The RX5700 XT in reference design runs hot. But I don't care about it. My case is well ventilated. And the performance is nice, running these two 4k monitors with Capture One and PhotoShop is really nice. In 5500 XT I couldn't scale the UI in the two displays as i was getting struggles.

Now I can scale the two displays and it still run Capture One fast as I never see before. Gonna change my signature. lol

PS: the 5700 XT reference design has 3 DPs and one HDMI. I can use all of them.

More Big Navi News!

@Gigamaxx,

Wow .. if AMD's Big Navi releases with those specs it will be the new king of compute (for single die dGPU's) ... probably overkill for many of us unless you are running some high end modelling software or have money burning a hole in your wallet.

Will be interesting to see how this one goes for AMD .... They have a history of over hyping new GPU's that never quite meet the pre-release hype when they come to market (like with the Vega GPU's).

I Think they played down the 5700 so it came as a nice surprise when AMD got them in to the hands of reviewers.
Am guessing that Apple already have a "duo" version of this new Big Navi GPU running on a New Mac Pro in some dev-lab in California.

One thing we can guess correctly is that it's going to be very expensive if it releases with 24GB HBM2.

Cheers
Jay

Hi everyone, I have a Sapphire Nitro + 5700 XT which is mostly working well, but I have a potentially big and worrying problem with it.

This card has a zero RPM fan feature where the fans are completely off below a certain temperature, it seems to be working well most of the time : as soon as I launch something GPU intensive the fans start... However when my hack "wakes up" from display sleep (pmset sleep is 0 and displaysleep is 1), the fan control is messed up and fans stay off even for a high load, and that makes me very worried about damaging the card (I hope that it throttles internally !). Going to full sleep and waking up is fine. Has anyone run in this sort of problem, or has a solution to suggest (darkwake ?, pmset ?, power tables ?, settings under windows ?)

Be aware that Navi cards are all PCIE 4.0, and while we are using it in PCIE 3.0, there is some performance lost.
While paired with AMD CPUs and the latest chipsets from their MOBOs, it will achieve even stronger performance.

For now everyone that uses Intel's CPU are having to struggle with PCIE lanes being shared by GPU and SSDs. Those AMD systems are laughing on us!

Actually, that's why I think Apple will move for AMD CPUs instead ARM chips.

I just wanted to add that I got my old build upgrade to Catalina today along with a brand new Sapphire 5600XT and after some pain and suffering everything seems to be running perfect!? I haven't noticed anything bad or weird yet. But it's nice that iTunes videos now play on my system with the new card. Thank you to everyone that contributes here on Tonymac!!

Just wanted to chime in and say I have been using an XFX RX5700 (model RX57XL8LBD6) with no issues. Lilu and WEG are doing their thing with AGDPMOD=pikera and shikigva=80 for DRM on Safari. Catalina with a headless IGPU.
Here it is - On Amazon.
