[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my Designare. The components are app new. The system never worked well.
Every few minutes i have a reboot after logging in in Catalina 10.15.3

Spec:
Gigabyte Z390 Designare latest bios, i9-9900K, 2x32GB Samsung 2666Mhz Ram stick, Intel 660p 500GB, Sapphire RX 580 580 8GB Nitro+
I use EmuvariableUefi+free2000
Clover 5103

No overclock of any kind
Tried booting from USB drive removing internal Intel SSD, still reboots

Any suggestion?

Regarding MemoryAllocation.efi, it seems you might be one of the less than one-tenth of one percent who needs this! :)
  • If using OpenCore, BIOS --> Internal Graphics should be disabled.
  • If using Clover, Internal Graphics can remain enabled. But in some very rare cases, MemoryAllocation.efi is necessary. You may also try disabling Internal Graphics (temporarily) and booting without MemoryAllocation.efi.

Actually, I can indeed boot without MemoryAllocation.efi and IGPU disabled in BIOS. But I would have liked not to because a few apps I use sometimes only make usage of Intel Quick Sync hardware acceleration and cannot use AMD GPU for this (Plex with Plex Pass for example). Plus I'm using Windows 10 too on this machine and deactivating iGPU in BIOS means deactivating for Windows, too. That's why i was wondering about how reliable is MemoryAllocation.efi. Some says this driver is actually very close to what OSXAptioFixdrv2-free200 was doing and that this driver can cause real hardware issues. I don't know...

Also, I noticed without MemoryAllocation.efi that my verbose outputs a lot of "label block readed 1" messages at startup and shutdown, and I don't remember having when booting with the driver. I don't know if this is a kind of error or something but anyway NVRAM seems to be working.

EDIT : Just discovered my macOS install cannot run Preview or QuickLook anymore on some picture files. After some research it seems this could bu due to iGPU rendering capabilities missing. Thus i think i will have to return to memoryallocation.efi and iGPU enabled until someone find a solution for Native nvram in cases like mine.

I'm a total noob here. So please forgive stupid ?s.

I had this build working golden and updated to Catalina. Now have no audio, and, so far, QuickTime, VLC and Final Cut cause kernal panic and reboot.

Tried using MultiBeast to repair (reinstall?) audio ,but get installation failed error. (I can't find MultiBeast.log to check why.)

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Not related to Hackintosh, sorry, but is it normal that this board boots quite slow? And there is no info during POST too. All disks, USB and graphic card are physically removed.

depends in how much ram you have.
That didn’t seem slow to me.
You went to see slow? Boot up an hp dl580 with 1tb of ram. :)

Hey there @CaseySJ, just needlessly reporting in.

I've been trying to get up to speed so I can play along as you guys come up with drafts. I finally caught on to everything and can report previous KGP SSDT level device tree (no nodes) using the TB Native files via the make file and proper GPE event.

I just needed the right patches. Happy to say it's getting along well with SSDT-TbtOnPCH-Z390.aml and OsxDetect and said patches.

I know it's not technically on PCH, though Osy mentioned it probably doesn't matter, and also this is Alpine Ridge. Either way I'd be thrilled to try any new drafts you've got. If you don't feel like sharing I get that.

I did learn however if I have GPI0 Force Pwr disabled then I end up with RTPC=True and that crashes Hotplug.

Anyways, cheers and thanks for all your work.

Did that many times. Moreover - cleared cmos, reflashed bios, changed every parameter in Boot section, removed everything including memory sticks. No avail.
Can somebody tell me if your Z390 Designare shows detailed info during POST, like any other MB does, or not?
Mine displays the Gigabyte UltraDurable splash screen and then runs Clover. I never see "American Megatrends..."

What's the latest news on the Thunderbolt front? Kind of quiet lately...
** Update on Thunderbolt Local Node **

After several weeks of going back-and-forth, we concluded that it would be more effective if @Elias64Fr had a Designare Z390 system of his own. Fortunately, he has ordered all the parts and is awaiting delivery of some out-of-stock components. Once his system is assembled and ready to go, we'll continue where we left off.

UPDATE: Elias just informed me that all parts have arrived and he expects to resume this activity during the coming week.

Some checklist items for upgrading from Mojave to Catalina:
  • Always start with a full bootable backup.
  • Now, while still running Mojave:
    • Update to latest Clover, preferably 51xx.
    • Update to latest Lilu, WhateverGreen, and AppleALC.
    • If using VirtualSMC, update to latest version. If using FakeSMC, no change to FakeSMC is needed.
  • Reboot Mojave to make sure everything is still working -- including Audio, VLC, QuickTime, Final Cut Pro.
  • Now perform an in-place upgrade from Mojave to Catalina -- using System Preferences --> Software Update.
    • Each time the system reboots, look carefully at all the boot options in Clover.
    • If you see a boot option that says "Boot macOS Install from ..." then choose that one.
    • If you don't see a boot option with the word "Install", then choose the standard "Boot macOS from ...".
  • When Catalina is fully installed, check the following once again:
    • Audio
    • QuickTime
    • VLC
    • Final Cut Pro

Some people have reported problems with the Intel 660p. Have you tried a different disk? For example, you can temporarily install macOS on a cheap 256GB SATA SSD.

Did the crashes occur from the very beginning (right after installing macOS)? Or did the crashes start to occur several weeks or months later?

Although you're working with an Alpine Ridge add-in-card, let's wait until we learn more from our experiments with Titan Ridge.
