Hello!

I recently set out to complete my first full build using all of the hardware from the Buyer's Guide. I have everything working successfully (Catalina 10.15.3) with the exception of my MSI RX 580 Armor GPU. I have heard the RX 580 should be easily compatible, so I’m sure I must be making a simple mistake somewhere along the line.

BUILD:

Motherboard:
Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI
CPU: i7-9700K
Drive: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT (16GB)
Graphics: MSI Radeon RX 580 Armor OC 8GB

BIOS CONFIGURATION:
  • M.I.T.
    • Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) --> Profile 1
  • BIOS
    • Windows 8/10 Features --> Other OS
    • CSM Support --> Disabled
    • Secure Boot --> Disabled
  • Peripherals
    • Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT) --> Disabled
    • USB Configuration
      • Legacy USB Support --> Enabled
      • XHCI Hand-off --> Enabled
    • Network Stack Configuration
      • Network Stack --> Disabled
  • Chipset
    • Vt-d --> Disabled
    • Internal Graphics --> Enabled
    • DVMT Pre-Alloc --> 128M
    • DVMT Total Gfx Mem --> 256M
    • Audio Controller --> Enabled
    • Above 4G Decoding --> Disabled
  • Power
    • ErP --> Enabled

WHAT I’VE TRIED:

With the GPU removed, Integrated Graphics set as primary in BIOS, and ‘Inject Intel’ checked, I can boot up Catalina 10.15.3 without any problems. However, as soon as I install the GPU I am unable to boot past the Apple Logo. I have tried the following without success:
  • Connected to HDMI, DVI, DP, etc. (tried all ports on GPU, best I can get is a black screen)
  • Enabled/Disabled integrated graphics in BIOS
  • Checked/unchecked ‘Inject DeInit’
  • Checked/unchecked ‘Inject ATI’
  • Checked/unchecked ‘Inject Intel’
  • SMBIOS set to iMac 14,2 | 18,3 | 19,1
  • Lilu and WhateverGreen kexts placed in /EFI/Clover/Kexts/Other/
  • Set InjectKexts = Yes

NOTE: I’m not sure if it makes a difference or not, but when I installed Catalina on the SSD I did NOT have the GPU installed, only used the Integrated Graphics.

I have also attached my EFI folder below.

Any ideas? If there's anything else I can upload for more context let me know. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Your efi shows you have both FakeSMC and VirtualSMC in your Clover/Kexts/Other folder.
Use one or the other of these kexts, and delete the other one. Also your config.plist does
not define any device properties, and provides a FakeID for your Intel graphics. Check other
posts for the UHD630 ig-platform-id and add it to your device properties. Not sure why you're
faking the ID.

Hi, did you manage to get it working in the end? I've got the same card and am also stuck at the Apple logo on 10.15.3. If you managed to get it sorted, would you mind letting me know which settings were required and how you fixed it? Thanks!
