If you used Unibeast 10 that includes Lilu + WEG but you'll need to add AppleALC for audio to work.
Since I no longer own the 6300/8300 I'm not posting an update or clean install guide. I'd suggest anyone who's going on to Catalina look at Sniki's config.plist under Devices/Properties to see what's required for working audio.

Right, if you're keeping kexts in kexts/other folder you can just drag and drop. In my previous post I linked to Sniki's repo where you can see what you need for working audio. I think I sold my 8300 about 2 years ago and never really used ALC and the Devices/Properties approach. Here's how he enables ALC221 and HDMI audio on these HPs.

How about for a tower 6300? I cant upgrade to Mojave due to Nvidia drivers are not available for my 1050 and and spare GT710 is too slow and (I guess) not compatible with Final Cut Pro.
I wanted to get another 9020 with i-7 but with new 500w power supply, graphics card and RAM but it is well over £300. I just need some editing work done (with proxy/optimized media) and I dont want to spend more than £60-70

Can you find a full height MSI or Gigbayte RX560 ? If so, those work well with FCP editing. It's similar to what's in newer MBPs.

No. Draws all it's power from the PCIe x16 slot. Make sure to get a 560 that doesn't need 6 pin power from the PSU. A few of the OC'd models need 6 pin power.
